Gentlemen,
Today is the 63rd year since D-Day June 6, 1944. It was also called by some "The Longest Day". I hold my hat over my heart on this day for all US and allied troops who fought on this day. You guys should take a minute for those living and dead who gave their all on that day so that we could be here today.
I would just like to THANK ALL OF THEM.

RIP and thanks....

Just a perspective on what some of those guys had to face that day. Here is Dog Green, right beside (east of) the D1 exit at Vierville shot from the water's edge at low tide on my trip to France awhile back. This would have been their view upon landing. That is a LONG walk under the conditions they faced. A very humbling experience.....

Been there myself two years ago for a Normandy D Day beaches tour.

Quite touching.

Omaha Beach : had a view from the sea and also same from the coast where germans were entrenched and bunkered. Very impressive. Although when the landing occured the water was not at high tide and soldiers had to walk/run/crawl and die on a much longer beach. Poor guys.

I also visited Pointe du Hoc where the US Rangers had to climb this 100 feet high abrupt cliff under all sort of fire. IICRC some 30 soldiers survived out of 140 some elements to start. (In irony, the so called huge cannons that were supposed to be a threat to all vessels where not in operation then.......)

Juno Beach, where our Can troops where landing too has also inaugurated a very nice Fed. site. One relative of mine was there on 6-6 and is still alive today. (Courseules sur Mer).

THEY SHALL BE REMEMBERED.

D-Day

The "greatest generation" for sure. Had a beer with my Dad today commemorate the event. He is a true combat veteran of the Italian campaign (Hasty P's) and was wounded three times.

We all owe those vets for freedom as we know it, and should never forget that fact. I only wish I had realized that more when I was younger! We have many today serving on our behalf that should be shown the respect and support they deserve.

And for those in the know, if a little late, is there an "approved" symbol to recognise this event ? For Canada at least it should be significant enough to note, after all, most of us break out the poppies in November. Granted that symbol is much larger woldwide, but still It ought to be something that all Canadians are invited to display their pride and rememberance one of finest days of Canada's military history !
