Had a problem with my Yugo SKS and brought it into his shop, not only did he have it sorted out in a few minutes but refused to take payment. He also had 3 paying customers in the shop at the time playing 20 questions with him about what rifle they should buy for this years hunting season.

Just excellent service

agree!

Yes, David is great to deal with. Just purchased a Cooey Model 60 stock from him. Stock was in excellent shape and soon I will have this 22 refinished with a tung oil finish for the stock and the metal work reblued. Hope to post some pictures here soon when its redone.
Regards,
Steve

Steve - Did you ever finish that Cooey Model 60? I've got one that desperately needs some attention so any inspiration would be appreciated... got Pics?

Cheers,
Gray.

Hi Gray,
Yes i finally finished the Cooey 60. The metal work is reblued and stock finished with 6 or 7 coats of polermerized tung oil. Nice to keep something of this vintage alive. Was originally owned by my grandfather and purchased in 1956 or 1957 from Hudsons Bay in Wawa!:canadaFlag:

sks

Hey Nester please dont take offense but the sooner I can get an SKS off my front counter and the hell out of my shop the better. I dont want word to get around that I would have anything to do with these diabolical pieces of trash. I guess I should have charged you $100 that would have ended my conection to the SKS. Sorry Nester I'm just haveing a good laugh at you expense, no harm intended. Regards David.

David are getting caught up to where you are accepting work again?:)

Work load

Noel, I managed to hire a young fellow that is working for me in the afternoons which has helped a lot with the minor service work, but Iam still way behind with the bigger projects. I hope he can afford to stick around as he is showwing lots of promise. So to answer your question I guess the answer is no I dont want anymore work at the present. David.

The thing I like most about Mr. Henry is that he's not like most gunsmiths. He's cordial and did not make me feel like a pee-on when I came into his shop one day just to visit. I did realize and saw that he was busy, but still...he gave me the time of day. His shop also tells the whole story, clean, organized, very professional, no wonder he's busy. Worth the trip whether you're in Calgary or Edmonton.

I have to agree, his shop is really neat and tidy. A very nice guy to deal with. I wish he was closer, well maybe not my hobby might cost me way more money.

I am glad I found this thread. I have a gun in his shop and I was wondering when it would get back to me.

I guess I'll have to wait a bit more. I can wait for quality work. I have lots of other guns to shoot in the mean time.

All smiths are perpetually busy. It's the nature of the business I suppose. We're very lucky to have the smiths that we do, as they could no doubt apply their skills in other industries and make more money at it.

Karl at KS arms is also a first rate smith, but again, overworked. Expect a 12 to 18 month wait for any major projects pretty much anywhere.
