D4895 vs IMR or H 4895

Is your M305 an 18.5" barreled one?

Usually my 22" one gets over 2700fps with 43gr of 4895 in IVI brass. Either IMR or Hodgdon are very similar in this load.

It's a M305 with a stainless 22" barrel w/TRW bolt. So, I'd imagine that I'd be getting to around 2650 at 43 grains. My powder dispenser wasn't instilling much confidence in my throw weights - likely 1/2 grain either way, so I could be up around 2700 fps at 43 grains.

I have to do more testing by getting a new Chrony and more tightly controlling and measuring my throw weights. At least I know I'm in a safe pressure zone with this powder/rifle combo.

Also, I never noticed the smoke. I'll need to pay greater attention next time out. All-in-all, a useful powder at a good price. I'm sure that they will sell out again once the powder is back in stock late this or early next year according to Canam.

Cool kinda curious as I got 10 pounds of d4895 when it was on sale.
Haven't tried 7.62 NATO loads with it yet but I worked up a dandy .30-30 load for my girlfriend's Marlin youth bear gun. Conveniently 30 grains.... Should be easy to remember!

Canam's D###X powders are IMR###X but OEM grade instead of canister grade. So your best loads with IMR4895 might not be exactly the same with D4895. Work up a new load and you're good to go if you stay within the same lot number.

Also, since it's an IMR48895 and not an H4895, the powder is more sensible to variations of temperature. You might not even notice it though.
