DA 50BMG Range Report

2500! Wow, if the little emoticon had a dude kneeling before his god I’d be slapping him in here.
Is that the gen2 with atrs n/r lower? Is your brass a bit “ringed”?
I got a ways to go, Best Buy more ammo. Tried the Hornady yet? I haven’t, but looking forward to seeing what the 750 will do...
hopefully well, otherwise I will have a lot to sell.
I’ll post when I get to it, cheers.

Ha, yeah, it's 2500 or more rounds, but I sure didn't shoot them all myself! :)

It's a Gen 1 as far as I know. Has a fluted barrel, no rough chamber or ringed brass like some of the Gen 2 had. It has an ATRS lower, here is a better pic of it. I've got some Hornady but haven't really tried it out much.

The rifle now has a Alberta Tactical Rifle lower installed. The ATR lower is very beefy, looks more streamlined than a regular AR15 lower and the upper/lower attachment system is much more solid. I'm eager to try this out again at 475 yard to see if there has been any accuracy change, but since the snow is now waist deep at our range, it is probably going to have to wait a few months before I can walk up the hill to put up a target. :)

I have the same setup with a gen 1 upper, waiting for my optics then first firing. Any words of caution for the gen 1, I under stand there may be some issues

“Issues?” I don’t think so. I think it was some of the Gen 2 that had rough chambers, not the Gen 1.

Mine is a Gen I and its falling apart. First the chamber was too tight. Then the barrel unthreaded. Without me touching it. Not impressed.

Other than that I love it.

I really like my Gen 2 with ATRS lower, for the most part moa with ball ammo and even my gas checked cast rounds are grouping decently around 2 to 2.5 moa. I have my reload cost down to just over a buck so have been shooting it alot this summer. I am seriously thinking of hunting with it once I feel comfortable with ranges and rounds I have planned for it. I doubt I will see gatehouse's 2500 count but maybe close :)

I believe the first gens suffered from poor primary extraction, were the second gens addressed this issue.

That’s wild. What was the fix?

Don't know. I just emailed them. I went to take it out. I rarely get to shoot it so it has been a while. I grabbed it by the barrel and it turned. I thought I was just imagining it. But no, it took no power at all to twist it. I have no clue how they lock the barrel in there but mine is definitely defective or missing it. I'm not very impressed. 50BMG is nothing to screw around with.

I haven't used any reloads and nothing out of the ordinary has happened while shooting it. It just seems like either the design was flawed or someone assembled it on a Friday afternoon.
