I thought I read somewhere on here before about increasing the shell capacity by one on these guns by shaving some material off the follower and snipping a few coils off the spring.

Am I remembering this anyway right at all?

I think you knock out the dimples, and change the follower, it's tight, but in some cases you don't need to clip the spring

I used a Orange S&J follower then removed the dimples and used a old style 870 metal spring retainer. I didn't have to cut the spring.

Used Orange S&J follower (old) and a Dlask Happy Face Cap.
Did not need to remove dimples in order to get 3 2-3/4" shells into magazine.
Advantage of keeping dimples is you cannot over-compress spring.

Perfect, I think that was the exact thread I had previously read about this matter.

I'm undecided whether to PGO it and register or put a hogue short LOP stock on it and use it for camping etc. Like you I would prefer the 4+1 of my 12.5".
If it was 20ga I would definitely have registered it already, I might go down that route with a single shot Turkish 20ga, like a cheaper version of those old H&R handiguns, a decent quality, light, short side by side would be nice to try replicate the old Auto and Burglar guns, hopefully corwin arms import something suitable in the future.

Damn... this 3 round talk is making me gain interest in an 8.5". Two doesn't do it for me but the 3rd makes it seem more worth while. Too bad with a PG it's restricted, would be a handy little rig.

I am SUPER interested in this thread.

I've had my 8.5" Grizzly for years, and it has accompanied me on m-a-n-y an adventure, but I've always felt a little under powered with just the two in the tube.

I'm looking forward to the mod and to squeezing a third round in there.

THIS is why I enjoy CGN.

Thanks fellas.

Its pretty cool with the birds head pistol grip but I didn't want' to go the restricted route. Thinking of putting on the 12.5" LOP Hogue stock to get it as small as possible but stay within the non-restricted OAL.

Note - I never attached the grip to the gun. Only positioned it to take the picture when I was trying to decide what to do. Now that I have 3 in the tube (4 total) I decided to keep it non restricted. Picture shown is before I went to the Dlask happy face endcap.

I have owned the 8.5 for several months now and after reading this article have just ordered up the end cap and follower in order to get the 4th round in there. Cause, ya know, it may be the one that drops the charging Griz. hehe. Two things I don't like about the gun. The sling front attachment location. I just would not like to see the sling get in front of the barrel. Hoping to maybe run a swivel into the hole at the front end of the pump stock. The other thing was I was getting whacked in my left hand pointer finger from the recoil, holding the pump stock normally. I had to make a conscious effort to keep my hand back a bit.
