Hi all, I bought a grizzly-mag by Dominion Arms with a 15" barrel a while back and I want to put a red dot sight on it. I don't really want to use a saddle-type rail (don't know if the 870 one will fit either). It came with two holes drilled and tapped so I just want to use a short rail. Does anyone know what will fit these drilled holes? I have heard that rem 870 top rail does not fit...any truth? I also heard that some of those guns came with one. Mine unfortunately did not. Holes are 36mm center to center. Seems like an odd size. I have been searching the site for hours to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Sorry to say it but the saddle mount is your best bet unless you get your grizzly receiver drilled and tapped. I took my rail off my 870 tactical and it won't work.

I was afraid of that but my receiver is drilled and tapped already. Holes are 36mm center to center. Will the standard 870 saddle fit on it?

I actually prefer the ghost ring iron sights on my Grizzly mag, but if I really wanted a rail up there, I would probably just take it to Joe Dlask and have him customize a Picatinny blank for it. He would easily be able to drill the blank with two holes to match the tapped ones that were for the rear sight, and drill and tap one more to hold down the front of the rail at the front of the receiver.

I would assume that a decent gunsmith in Toronto would be able to do the same thing.

I didn't go that route. I used the stock adapter and S&J hardware too rail. Here is my grizzly mag/870

That is a nice looking gun but I wanted something that was easily changeable back to ghost ring. I may have to go the customized route as Allstone suggests. I also have a heat shield attached that I like the look of. I am toying with the idea of a muzzle brake as well (tacticool). Do you find the AFG2 comfortable to use? There isn't a mag tube extension on that is there?

The AFG2 is the best with pump actions, they have gone on this one, 5 870's and 2 KSG's. Always the first thing to go on. Yes I know it has a mag extension lol only for looks cause it lines up perfectly with the 18.5" barrel and the barrel clamp.

My DA came drilled and tapped (2 holes) and was complete with the short rail section already screwed on. It was no prize...the holes are nicely centered and straight on the receiver, but the holes in the section of rail are so crooked and off-center that it looks ridiculous and barely contacts the receiver in only a couple of spots. I re-drilled and countersunk two new holes in the rail and mounted it backwards, and the old ones are virtually invisible.

Sounds like someone tried to force a Remington 870 scope rail on it. The holes are a little off on them hence my problem.

As it turns out I just bought a saddle mount for 870 to see how it would look. Once again the 870 stuff doesn't fit on the grizzly. I even tried making the holes bigger but it was just too far out.

Looks like I may have the problem licked. Got a pm from someone with a scope rail that came with his grizzly but didn't use. A few bucks later and fingers crossed it will all work out. Thank you all for the suggestions and assistance.

Update: Well I got the rail in the mail today and it doesn't fit. Not even CLOSE. The guy assured me the holes are 36mm center to center. They are in fact 32mm. What he was measuring with I don't know. Looks like I will be making my own.

I will be making my own. Two of them had the wrong scope mounting holes. I will have to cut, measure, drill, and secure it with proper screws. Any suggestions on what screw sizes to use for this shotgun (Grizzly-Mag). Thanks

For what it's worth. The Rail that came with my Grizz was a POS. One of the holes on it was quite a bit off center. I had to substantially drill the two holes out to get the rail straight. The holes were also size on size for the hardware, it would not work right out of the box.

I have a TRS25 on my 870 as well, works really well... I didn't like the AFG much on the pump though, I have since replaced it with the handstop kit, and I like it much better
