I noticed a funny trend with Civi shooters, no one likes to fire their guns in DA. So am curious who shoots DA and who shoots SA only with their DA revolvers.

I shoot DA 90% of the time, maybe I like the challenge :p but if you have good trigger control DA is just a accurate ;)

When I started shooting many years ago, we used to shoot K-22s single handed bullseye style. Always cocked the hammer and shot SA. Now, when I shoot revolvers, which is not that often, I shoot DA. I actually like to feel the lock up and the release after. I think training this way actually helps with shooting striker fired semis.

I know lots of guys who shoot DA in SA most of the time. I have SA guns for that. Interesting the response this poll is getting because that is not how I see it at the range.

When I am trying a new ammo, I will try the first cylinder in SA. Then I practice DA. Also, I can swap out barrel lengths, so I do the same - SA then DA.

I wish i could say that in my case. i think DA is fun for closer and faster shooting (no i don<t compete), but try as i might, i have never been as accurate with DA as with SA. Given most of my shooting is longer distance target work, SA predominates.

As far as I've ever been taught when using a DA revolver, is to always shoot it on DA.

The only time i was told or ever allowed to use SA on my DA revolver was for long distance shots where time wasn't a factor.

I guess the question is, are we shooting it for bullseye at the range, or are we actually doing drills for defensive or competition style shooting? If the latter, then it's DA only.

With the exception of some combat courses and man silhouette shooting years ago, for the most part, I shoot single action. Most of my shooting these days is long range and paper punching.

This is akin to asking if someone shoots one handed bullseye style or a two hand hold.

I think it's good to be very familiar with all four.

My preference seems to be (for now) single-action one hand.

I do practice SA and DA both one and two hand.

Knowing your gun for DA is paramount of course!

For me the biggest reason I shoot SA more than DA is I like the crisp 2lb trigger in SA versus the long 10lb (or more, my trigger scale only goes to 10 lbs). I can shoot great groups with SA, while average with the DA. I know, I know , practice practice practice. But with all my other guns that need feeding, I find that I am conserving my ammo these days, and SA helps me do that. It's just more deliberate. I like tight groups. I have NO HOPE IN HELL of ever competing in any kind of sanctioned or organized shoot, so it doesn't matter much to me if I ever shoot my revolver double action anymore.

Most of my shooting is in DA, After 25 yards I will go SA more although I've hit the gong at 100 yards in DA I get more hits out far with SA. I never thought I'd love revolvers but its my favourite handgun to shoot. I think I need another.

I've not adjusted my springs yet on my few Smiths - the DA is far too heavy from factory to be much accurate with. SAO right now other than the odd bit of double-fisted DAO

Now my old Webley, despite having a fairly heavy pull, is nice to shoot in double action, and the GP100 isn't bad with the factory spring.

Double action most of the time.

First DA for me was an 1889 Colt; notoriously poor DA with weak lockup, but an antique...therefore a Sask family reunion, Bar-B-Q, show off piece:redface:
Just got into the SA habit and never left it, my revolvers are still all turn of the century, thus big old hogs. Colt New Service, S & W second model, Colt 1892's; perhaps infamous DA's is a good term ( excepting perhaps the S & W, it's surprisingly good).

80% SA
20% DA

I would shoot more DA if we could use a holster at my range. DA is for the style of shooting based on draws.

Interesting question. I shoot them both ways, depending on what I am doing. If I'm doing drills, it's always double action, usually on the move. If I'm just seeing what I can do on a target at distance, SA. Just depends on my mood. As someone pointed out, practice DA, SA, one hand, two hand, strong hand weak hand....then you will become proficient in all aspects of shooting.
