So to my surprise the wife WAS going to buy me a DA50 for my 50th...but she did her homework and was a bit surprised by a hand full of blow ups ,barrel problems and bolt problems..So all I got to date is a card...BUMMER!!!....Can any one elaborate what is happening with these?..

Sounds like to me she doesn't want you to have a 50 lol. Seriously though, I have a gen 1 and no issues what soever, some issues with the gen 2 with the bolt locking up too tight IIRC. Do a search on here and you should be able to find the other threads on it.

Someone posted one that blew up in Quebec I think ? What ammo was used was unknown though. They also had some barrels with bad chambers and IIRC they are replacing these. The chambers were very rough.

I have almost 1000 rounds through mine now, still have all my fingers. :)

link?

There are a few posts on CGN here about difficult bolts / extraction that required hammering on the bolts and yes a thread about the one that blew up too. Currently on mobile or I'd search / post some CGN links.

Your wife didn't cheap out: she's looking out for you. I would feel uncomfortable too gifting a .50 if there were potential issues at least until I could verify that it was resolved.

Safety issues aside no one want's a gun that doesn't function reliably.

If she is looking for a cheap and safe 50cal for you she could look at a Serbu RN-50. Not much to go wrong on those and although they are relatively light for a 50cal they are pretty beefy where needed. Not everyone likes a screw on breech cap though. For a 50 and how expensive ammo is I would have no problem with a screw on breech cap that would slow shooting down just a bit, they are a little cheaper then a DA50 as well.

Right now the little woman is beating a path at the Wholesale sports and other shops between PG to Calgary.....A Steyr 50 is not out of the question yet!!

It's a norc. Your wife made a smart decision. Keep that one. She's a gooder.

The DA50 are not made by Norinco. The barrels are from the USA, from Mossberg. The rest of the upper is made in Canada, from what I understand. The one in the video above would have a ATRS lower attached to it. I assume the one in the video was one that had a rough chamber and the case stuck. Unless it was an overpressure cartridge, which also could be the culprit, but as the gunsmith said the case looked bad, it's likely the chamber that was the issue.

The barrel looks flutted so it should be a DA50 Gen 1. Also the gunsmith commented on the YouTube page that it was mostly an overpressured round. So probably not the rough chamber issue ppl been experiencing on the Gen 2.
