DAC 394 (Sig 228 Clone) Kit

If it makes you feel better, I have a registration certificate and NO gun. I hope the contracted carrier did not deliver it to the wrong house. When they are done their move I will have to call and see if they shipped it out.

Maybe you and Hokus could work out some sort of trade? :p

So after a few hours of cursing and swearing, I realize I've got the trigger pivot in upside dwon, so the takedown lever won't fit throught the locking block. LMAO!!

Everything is seated and working, just the hammer assembly left.

only 11 more pieces to fit and install and she's a done deal!!!

I almost giggled when the trigger bar engaged the hammer for the first time.

Hey this might be a good thing. I placed an order but didn't know whether Dlask had anymore. Just got an email asking for my RPAL number and Shooting Club. I guess that means he may have one in stock and is processing the order?

From what I have read here, it sounds like the kit maybe something like a boat.

I.E.
Q. What are the happiest two days of a mans life?
A. The day he buys a boat and the day he sells that boat.

I haven't received the kit yet but I would like to give a shout out in advance to Joe-Boy, novega, and Hokus Grey for the information the have shared.

I didn't get a chance to do much over the weekend, but the hammer and hammer stop are in. Man, do you ever gotta be careful with that plastic hammer stop! I got it in, but nearly destroyed it in the process of shaving a little off it to fit. I'll probably finish the assembly tonight, depending on if the last half dozen pieces of the safety lever, sear and whatnot fit right.

Anyone got any advice on the assembly of the sear, safety lever, S/D, D/A?

So far everything seems to be working, but these pieces have me a little concerned. I'm not sure exactly how they are to move/ engage each other.

I met with two other CGN'ers who also bought kits on Saturday. I'm pretty surprised by the difference in quality and parts sizing between the three pistols. For example, my hammer (before I took the grinding bit to it) didn't look like the other two guys'. Some pieces required fitting (metal removal) on my gun, theirs did not.

The only advice I can give you on the assembly of the safety/sear/hammer is that I find it easiest to:
- get the pin started from the right hand side
- line the safety up...push pin in a bit to hold it
- put ejector on the "stubby pin" (one that the end of the sear spring will sit on) and line it up with the pin, the hammer itself should help hold the ejector in place a little.
- put the sear in (has to kinda go in from "underneath") and push pin inwards a bit to secure the sear
- put the sear spring in and push the pin right through
- hook the end of the sear spring (I use a flat tip screwdriver) under the "stubby pin" so it applies pressure to the sear.
- center the pin in the frame so it won't catch on the slide rails.
Having all parts slightly lubed seems to help keep them in place as you assemble, it's pretty easy to accidentally bump one off the pin or move something out of place

Apologies if this isn't what you were looking for or if it's covered in you reference material.

Anyone else almost done? I'm getting lonely :p

Thanks Novega!!

I've misplaced my digital camera, so if I find it, or buy a new one, I'll take some pics. As far as internal pieces, mine have fit pretty well, no real issues except for the slide lock lever that had to be bent a bit and the locking insert.

no more progress from anyone yet??

Depends what you consider progress. I've made peace with the fact I don't have the time or the patience to build either of the kits I bought, I consider that progress.

Now the only thing I have left to do is, try to figure out how much the one I worked on is worth and, throw both of these time vampires up on the EE...wait, that's not very good salesmanship on my part is it?;)

I'm actually toying with the idea of getting another one. :onCrack:

Hopefully "if/when" I decide to get another, I'll find a really cheap kit that hasn't been messed up already.

I've been meaning to ask, with some of the guys having problems with the plastic hammer block, could a replacement be machined out of aluminum barstock?

Contact Dlask. They have some spare parts.
But that doesn't mean you can butcher parts like there is no tomorrow.
Likely, in situations like these, a lot of people will f-up the same parts.
So, later, there will be some shortages in some specific parts.
Transfer bars, for instance, are hard to fit
and I predict later Dlask will be short of spare ones.

@ Turf

On the US Home Gunsmithing site (Linked in this thread) someone made one. Said it worked fine. All the Sig parts for the P228 fit and are better made, from what I've read, but the Sig hammer stop is still plastic. This is a really good frame, some of the US builders who have been building them for a few years put Sig slides on them, Sig internals and all that. I might make mine a sleeper Sig, with Sig springs and all that, but we'll see once this one gets finished.

@ Novega

After this, I'm looking at another one as well. Now that I know what I"m doing (kinda) I'd love to take a crack at another one. I think the next piece I buy will be complete from the factory, though. I'm patient, but sometimes I just want my instant gratification.

Anyone have a recommendation for a set of files that would work well for this project?

All I have are some fairly coarse old files that definitely won't work for small detail filing.

Home Depot has a set of six (6) small files on sale for $3.98 - and they're perfect for getting into the small nooks and crannies on the frame.
