Hey everyone,
I just looked up and saw Dad pull in. I thought, "Man, it's early for him to be home" and by the time I'd got outside he'd pulled his buck out and had it in the driveway. "Well son, broke in the ol' .35 (Rem). Rattled this guy in."
A bit of back story. My Great Grandpa had a Remington 141 in .35 Remington that he used until it jammed when a black bear charged him (which he promptly shot with his revolver, which tells you how long ago it was). Dad had always thought it was a neat gun, but somewhere along the line it disappeared. A few years ago while we were in Southern Ontario at my Grnadparents, we found an old box of Remington .35 Remington shells. I came on here asking if anyone had an old .35 Rem. they wanted to get rid of cheaply, but no dice.
A few days later I got a message from a friend saying he had a .35 Rem we could have because it had "problems". We went over and it was a Remington 141
It wouldn't feed from the magazine. We tried fixing it for a while, but Dad said, "I'm fine with it as a single shot". The scope on it seemed to hold its zero, but I think it had some issues, so one night while talking to MadTrapper143, he sold me a Weaver K3 and a few boxes of shells. Dad sighted it in and he was good to go.
We hung it in the shed and got to talking. "Well son, this was a pretty cheap setup. Total cost was under $25". The shot was 95 yards (according to Google Earth).
Not a big deer by any stretch, but should be a good eatin' deer.
