My brother and I are avid hunters. When we were kids, dad came with us for hunter's class. when we started hunting, he would brign us where we wanted, pretty much when we wanted. He never asked for anything in return. He did this simply because he was our dad! He didn't hunt himself but did this to spend quality time with both his sons. I remember him brigning us to our hunting camp on a friday afternoon and then come pick us up on the folowing sunday night. Great memories !

20 years later, my bro and I decided that we would do something to thank our dad for all he did all those years for us. We secretly built him a blind he would be comfortable in. The blind, lifted 8 feet up, overlooks a soya field with hardwoods in the background 85 yards away. Since my dad has a pacemaker and an artificial hip, this is easy access and is the perfect spot for him. The land we hunt belongs to my wife and her siblings. I now have a house built on the farm. 2 years ago we invited dad to join our hunting clan consisted of my brother, myself and our best friend who my dad has known for at least 34 years. Since I have my house on the land, it's easy to eat and sleep and invite the crew over for all of the hunting season.

At first dad did not have a PAL so we would take turns to go hunt with him. in his blind. We would teach him everything we knew about deer hunting and what he sould and should not do. Last year Dad got his PAL and got to hunt alone in his blind. He had a great time. During legal time, he only saw 2 fawns and decided not to shoot (we thought him good!). He saw a huge buck after legal time about 20 yards in front of him. Again, he did not even try to shoot. Season ended and he came back empty handed.

This year, dand did as he did last year. He went to his bling mornings and afternoons and saw nothing. He was not discouraged and actually liked it out there in nature. Nothing happened untill last wednesday afternoon when payback happened really fast... He saw a doe come out in the field andsaw tha she knid of always looked back into the woods. He waited for about 20 minutes because he knew something was ''off''. We told him that a doe, looking back into the woods could mean a buck is not far behind. He waited till the buck finally came into an opening. He carefully aimed and calmly took the shot. The rest is a bunch of memories I will always remember....

Dad, you are my hero !

And this, Ladies and Gentlemen, is what hunting is all about. Too bad some people will never experience it.

Please tell me that you're not the guy that stole his kid's orange vest!

Terrific thread, and priceless memories. I love the photo.

I'm in my den reading this. It's also my half-assed effort at a trophy room, and I have some decent hunting trophies on the walls...but if the place were on fire right now, and my wife and dog were safely out and I could grab only one thing in the house to save when I left, that item would be a tiny 3x3 whitetail rack that my dad took on his last hunt with me a couple of years before he passed away.

Congratulations to you folks, and particularly to your dad. :)

This was a very heartwarming saga, and as one poster said, many will never get to experience it.

You have made my day! Regards, Dave.
