Dall Sheep Down..... Real Pics Now!!

Looks like his teeth wernt that great for being 8-9. It's amazing how bad there teeth get on some of them. Fancy looking ram for sure.

Yep, he's got some bad "lumpy jaw" as it is called here by the biologists. Quite common in our sheep in certain areas. I've seen 5+6 year old rams that I'm certain could barely feed and yet in the same area I've taken a 13 and a 15 year old ram, both of which had perfect teeth other than normal wear.

Congrats to 'Son of c-fbmi' on a neat ram! Look forward to more pics!

Nice ram!

That rifle needs Talley lw rings, I hate those weavers that crimp your scope...

Out here we call those 'SuperCub Specials'. Only rings that make Talley LWs look high end... :D

For all the critisizm of Weaver rings......yes the're ugly........yes if you don't know what you're doing you can actually squeese a ring in your scope tube.....yes they roll as you tighten then. However I have used hundreds of them and my scope never moves even on .375s and .416s or worse yet 300 RUM and 340 Wby. They are one of the lightest ring and base sets on the market, and they are one of the toughest set-ups going. That rifle wasn't built for asthetics, it is pure function and the Weavers were the best rings for the job. Plus it is all we can get for a lot of rifles here or into the heavy Redfield/Leupold set ups. I am considering a custom set of titaniums for it, down the road. I am also toying with the possibility of a titanium barrel, octagon. The absolute ultimate in a light rifle, 4 lbs with scope.

I worked at a gun shop and mounted somewhere over 100 scopes with weaver rings and bases. They are a pain in the ass to mount. Mainly because of the roll as you tighten and slot head screws on the rings. Even with a proper fitting hollow ground bit, the screws are annoying. I don't like them, I can find things wrong with them, but I can't say they don't work. They are inexpensive, lightweight and they will hold under heavy recoil for a long time.

And, used as quick detachables, they return to zero as well as mount systems costing three to four times as much. :)

Congratulations to James on another ram.

How many has he taken with a bow? Doesn't he have one pretty high in the book?

Ted

Yep, he's taken 2 with his bow, his first sheep ever, scored number 4 in the world and #1 in Canada and is in Pope & Young. His second bow taken, was not a bad ram, he made an 80 yd "hail Mary" and got him. Then last year he went out and shot a very nice Stone sheep, with rifle.

A bit off topic here - but with Weaver rings, are the issues mentioned with the plain detachable top mount rings only, or do the complaints apply to Grand Slam rings also?

Well I barbied up 1/2 of a complete backstrap the other night to a wonderful med rare to rare and sat down and finished most of it that evening. It took about 3 sessions till near midnite but I "got 'er done"
That was one of the tastiest evenings I've had in years, threw in a nice tossed salad and everything was stupendous. Slept like a baby, the Ruffino chianti might have helped a little.
I don't tend to photograph my meals like some on this site (Ted) cause that's just plain mean.
