I am testing out the new Gun-Kote 1200 Ambient Cure coating, and decided to do the slide & slide release on my Colt 1991-A1 as a test.

It turned out pretty good.I like the two tone effect.:D

Need a close up, I can't see S**T:D Looks like a dark gray frame, and a light green slide, and the finish is pretty rough looking. Is that close?
The second and bottom ones are closer, very cool man....looks great

Where did you get the new gunkote? Any dealers have it in stock up here yet? Did You use the K Phos teatment or did you parkerize. K-phos sounds much easier than doing a park, just hope it works as well.

I use the bake on for my knives but air cured would certainly be easier for say a long gun.

Looks nice SKB.

I used the K-Phos pre-treatment. AFAIK, this new Gun-Kote has just come out.Not sure if it is being stocked as of yet.

As to sandblasting, I am looking around at sandblasting set-ups.

With the slide I did, the parkering was still in excellent shape, so blasting wasn't neccessary.I just degreased the slide and then did the K-Phos on it.

You can get away without blasting, but you would have to scuff the surface by hand.

Media blasting would make things a lot easier.

Please describe your sandblasting setup.
Mine consists of the floor model cabinet from Princess Auto. Got it on sale for $188 and change.
A 50lb bag of 120 grit aluminum oxide was $110..
And a compressor..you'll need a decent size to keep up to the sand blaster..even at 40 psi.
SB..if you go with a cabinet and the 120 grit..seal all the seams with silicone. 120 grit is very fine and as it wears out..the dust will come out of every gap, crack and crevice of the cabinet.

Edit to add..if you are refinishing a blued gun..KGCoating recommends you blast it..but like SB said..if your gun is parked you can get away with a good cleaning.

That's my one worry, all the dust escaping.

I was going to set up an outside shed for blasting, but since it looks like we are going to sell our house and look for a new one, I may wait until we get the new one.Hopefully with a double garage!!!!

Might look at KMS Tools or Princess Auto this week.
