Damage to SR1911 frame?

Ruger got back to me this morning and so far they said:

Response:
Thank you for your inquiry. We have forwarded your message to our Export Dept for their review. You should have an email response from them next week.

From what I've read on the Ruger forums, Ruger stands behind their products but that was all US cases. Most cases, they got nice Ruger swag too as a "Thank You" for being a Ruger customer. Good luck and keep us posted. And if ya get a Ruger logo ball cap ya don't care for... ahem. :)

That was there from day one. It's a casting flaw. Cracks and the like that occur due to shooting would not look like that. They'd be a line and not a little divot.

It COULD be a spot that causes trouble at some point or it might be fine for your life time and the life time of the next owner. Tough to say.

But I agree that the bigger problem here is the fact that you've only put maybe 250 rounds through it in a year worth of ownership.

You need to spend more time shooting and less time obsessing over minor cosmetic flaws that you have to disassemble the gun to see.

lol cut me a break, I haven't even had my RPAL for a year and I have a Glock, 92A1, Tokarev and the 1911. Lots of guns to shoot. There will be lots of rounds out of the 1911 in time :)
The 1911 has more rounds than my 92A1 right now!

Still waiting for the Ruger export department to contact me. They said this week, so if no response by Friday I'll probably call in.

Well, speak of the devil. I just got this response from Ruger:

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the casting flaw in your SR1911. Our Service Dept has reviewed you photos and has recommended that we replace your pistol at no charge. This will be done through our Canadian Repair Station. Can you please send me an email message that includes your original serial number and your acceptance of a new pistol and I will forward the replacement instructions.

So it's my first time going through something like this. So I know I need a STATT to bring it to the post office. Then do they register the new firearm with the RCMP as if I was buying from a business or is there some other process involved?

Great news, i hope they have a replacement gun for you though and you are not left waiting months and months for it to arrive i know Ruger was wayyy behind in production.

Very long time ago I had to send a new gun back to Colt due to a frame defect. They put the same serial number on a brand new gun so there was no paperwork to be done. Took a damn long time though.

If you're lucky they just pick a new one. Probably alot faster imo.

wow, I definitely will not hesitate to buy a Ruger product in the future seems like they really stand behind their products and treat their customers right. Hope you get your replacement in quickly OP .

Very impressive on Ruger's part--that was more stress-free for you than I would have expected. Regarding the legalities of re-registration, I'd wait until you get the instructions back from Ruger and contact the warranty place yourself--they'll know the process.
