Damaged mares leg bolt. Is it safe to use??

There is nothing wrong with that bolt. I would bet all I have it was that way when it left the factory. The bolt faces on my winchesters look better but they took a little more care in manufacturing the originals and this is just a knock off. If you want to see rough machining that is never questioned just abused, look at a norinco.

Thanks for the input. The bolt face is fine. Did you notice the small bite taken of out the metal on the side view photo? The side view one is where you can really see the damage.

Feedback isn't going to help I don't expect the buyer to take it back or offer any help.
He refunded some of my money for the damage and I agreed to that.

Now I'm just wondering about how safe it is to use. I was hoping a gunsmith on here or someone with more knowledge would have a good opinion on it.
I might still see what manufacturers have to say, have to contact Rossi.

EDIT: judging from Rossi's site, it doesn't say anything about lifetime warranty on long guns, will have to call for more info since they have no email

Have you tried to get a replacement from Rossi?
Seems logical to be the next place to look if one considers this firearm to be unsafe...
Maybe Western Gun Parts even??

The little chip won't harm anything at all. I would say it happened while machining with a dull tool and it just flaked off of there. General rule in the gunsmith forum is if soreson or leeper don't have input right away none is needed.

if a manufacturing company was prepared to let a flaw like that pass inspection, I wouldn't touch one of their products with a ten foot pole. It would imply their standards of quality were extremely low
