So I brought my P226 Equinox to a shop a while back and had them install my front sight for me. When I got it back, it looked like this but I was told it was 'no big deal' by two employees of this reputable outfit. Naively, I believed them, as I was fairly unfamiliar with how these things worked.

Disappointed, I paid for the 'service' and brought it home. Now my sight wiggles and not only has my finish on my pricy handgun been f'd but now I can't replace my sight neatly.

What would you do?

It looks the the dovetail on the site is not quite the same as the one in the slide. I would take the sight out, file the damaged dovetail on the slide to clean it up and cold blue it. Then I would hit the bottom of the site dovetail with a center punch a few times. Should tighten it up when it's reinstalled.

I've sent an email to the company who did this. Their identity will be kept secret until the matter is resolved.

But what can be done to fix this? My slide, as far as I can tell, is pretty damaged.

Unfortunately I don't think anything can be done to fix it... well, maybe weld it up, recut and refinish - you'd probably be better off buying a new slide.

Ewww... just read about the sight wiggle. You paid for an install, they butchered your slide and it is not fit properly.

It looks like the sight was driven with such force at the WRONG angle that it created a new "cut" - the installer realized sh*t wasn't lined up properly and re-did it (of course now it is a sloppy loose fit).

Horrible error; perhaps a rush job or inexperience. Rest assured they won't (let's hope) botch another slide in the future.

The worst is when they told you to not worry about it.

I would return to this "reputable outfit" and demand that they order me a NEW slide. They screwed up your gun, THEY are responsible. A slide for a Sig is NOT cheap, I would not dig in my pockets to purchase one. If they give you any greif, take them to small claims court.

You can take the wiggle out by removing the sight and LIGHTLY peening either side of the dovetail down. Also the idea to put a centerpunch mark or three on the bottom of the dovetail work as well. But really, whoever did that to your pistol is a clown who shouln'd be trusted with anything more complicated then an electric pretzel, they should replace the slide for you, thats a horribly butchered job. I concur with the fellow who said that it looks as if they started it wrong and then beat it on thru.....:(

Second rate work. "No big deal" isn't an acceptable way to pass off a botched job. Something else - the dovetail on the sight is only slightly wider than the sight blade itself. That is a pretty narrow dovetail to hold firmly in the long term, even if the cut in the slide were done properly.

If the place is a "reputable place", then ther eis no question you should take it back and demand that they fix it properly. That install is pathetic as is the answer your recieved from them. I to would demand a new slide or fix as if it were new. A good pistolsmith and fix that no porblem.

I wouldn't be very happy either....but I don't think it's really that bad considering the slide/sight in the photo is about 5 times larger then it really is...

1) The sight "wiggles".
2) It's a piece of precision craftsmanship, not a toy from Fisher Price. If it were mine, I'd be outraged . I have had many a firearm worked on by my "smith". You can't tell they were ever worked on or modified. This is why we pay to have these things done.

I'm not a gunsmith nor am I an expert but I know poor workmanship when I see it. I definitely wouldn't be happy with that. If the shop is 'reputable' they should fix the sight so that it wouldn't wiggle and rework the area so that it looks like it was done with competence. If they can't they should replace your slide. Hope you get some satisfaction, if not, let us know the shop's name so that I'd never send anything there........

That's just it... if it were a Norino or even a CZ you'd expect to see some rough tooling marks on the pistol and might be able to "accept" it, but...

A SIG is flawless from the factory... These guys put a flaw in your flawless.

Secret? I don't think so. That's what governments do. Unless there is a prohibition on this forum tell us who it is. We're here to share information and I'd like to make an informed decision on where I send my firearms for service. Looks like they tried to drift out the old sight to the wrong side.

Well, the point of this thread was more to figure out what kind of resolution I could or should be seeking. I feel it unfair to post the identity of the company until they respond to my email. Otherwise, it's just bashing and name calling. I see it happen here all the time. No good comes from that.

I hope you get satisfaction over this. I suspect a lot of people will be thinking twice about every shop near Edmonton as I must assume from where you live that it is the city where said shop is.
All the best,
Mike
