Remington sourced their barrels in Belgium. Solid well made guns. I have a Model 1894. Your gun cost about $35 when new; a Model 1894 Winchester rifle with round barrel was about $11.00.

There were 3 Mantons who made guns .This is a 16 ga J Manton & Co .I was told these guns were made in India by a younger son of John Manton.This one is an estate gun or game keepers gun.It was finely fitted and points like a dream.

I have to chime in here with some information to counter the real misinformation regarding damascus shotgun barrels. My 1952 Gun Digest (older than I am) advises against shooting ANY damascus shotgun. I still believe this is sound advice. You never know when one will 'let go' (regardless of the load you shoot) no matter how soundly constructed decades ago. Remember each time you shoot a shotgun your eyes and hands are close to a potentially catastrophic event. In other words, play with fire, expect to get burned. My Greener was re-proofed 25 yars ago at the birn=mingham proof house and i have complete confidence in it when I shoot black and brass out of it.
Ialso shoot 1oz smkeless out of it at times with no hesitation.
