OK, I recently bought a Ruger 10-22 and decided to try my hand at stoning the bolt release plate IAW Goose 25's directions in the sticky to make it an auto release. Works fine, that's all good. (Thanks for the excellent directions, too!)

Here's the problem. When I put it all together again, there on the workbench was a set screw. Tiny thing - measures 3.35 mm (0.132") across the threads, 3.13 mm (0.124") long. Blued, slot on one end, no head.

I've looked at the parts list and diagram and find nothing like it - it's not a scope mount bolt. The rifle seems to work fine, although I haven't actually fired it.

Is this something I've left over from something else, is it a part of the rifle (and if so, what) or is it my brain finally imploding?

IMagius - You had me thumping downstairs - good suggestion and I had had some dies out last week. Sadly, no.

zuke - thanks, but they are larger and have a head.

Damfino...

I just double checked some exploded view drawings, and oterh than the 4 "filler screws" for on top of the reciever, there are no "set screws" like you described in it.

I'd say the 10-22 is safe to shoot.

The last 3 guns you worked on however ... maybe not so much :(

I'm trying my damnedest to remember which of my firearms has a little set-screw around the trigger to adjust it ... unless I'm thinking of the set screw the sets the trigger "sensitivity" on my quick release for my bow.
