Well here we go. After firing about 500 shots with my 22/45 mark 3 it was giving me some serious problems so i decided well its time to clean it. I would have never thought i would be just like everyone else with the re assembly of the ruger mark 3 but i am.

I took it apart, cleaned it, then put it back together and now the trigger will not fire the firing pin, the slide release doesn't work, when i pull the bolt back there is a whole lot of friction, and worse of all i cant pull the pin out of the bolt anymore to take it apart again to fix my mistake.

The take down lever opens, but the whole piece only comes out of the grip about 3mm, i tried to pry it open using a screw driver and a mallet but no go.

So i guess i screwed the pooch on this one... I'll bring it in to wanstalls next week, hopefully i didn't damage the firing pin or something silly.

Great little practice target pistol but really if i damaged it while putting it back together thats just really poor design engineering.

It's all in the positioning of the hammer. There's a little tab that's probably binding against the back of the magazine well. Can you push the bolt back in ?

the bolt fully retracts and slides,it's not stopping in any way after 3 cm like the other guys on forums have mentionned when they had problems reassembling their ruger. I can remove the mag and pit it in, thats not an issue although the mag release button doesnt push the mag out anymore like it used to before I messed things up.

The empty mag catch also functions to lock the bolt back and the bolt release also functions, but when I press the trigger, no click. And when I remove the mag the bolt slides back with a lot of friction and stays in the back position, which its not supposed to do without a mag in there, but then when you tap on the back of the bolt very gently it releases back, so there's something in there causing some friction.

It's definitely bound up on that tab. I don't know if this is the correct term but it's like the hammer strut. Since you can pull the bolt back you should be able to look up into the slot to see the hammers position. A pencil can be use to reposition the hammer. that being said it can be a royal pain to get it apart. My father I law has the lite version of this pistol first time it happened to him it took us just about an hour to figure it out. Sorry for your troubles.

Thanks I'll try to wack it again, I was wacking it at a 90 degree angle, and maybe not wacking it hard enough...sigh what a mess...

Does the 22/45 have that internal safety lock thing? I remember something like this happened to My brothers mk3. If I recall correctly when the take down lever on his wouldn't come out it had turned out that the internal lock screw had worked its way too far in, when we took it apart and backed it out a touch everything went back to normal.

Do you mean the mag safety ? If so yes and by removing this the trigger pull is improved. But that's not what's binding the gun. It's not a safety but the actual hammer spring strut/tab.

Ok I got it open again, thanks,I wasn't whacking it hard enough with my mallet to knock that hammer back down. Jesus. you have to whack it hard! Bolt and firing pin don't seem damaged.

well now I have it open again, i'll try to put it back together with the hammer down.

Was talking about the safety that take a little Allen key thing. But yeah it was just a suggestion, as it had happened to me.

Yah was a ##### to put back together too, had to whack it again to close it, test cycled it dry fired it safety and all and it's working now, thanks guys. (I know you're not supposed to dry fire them but at this point I don't give a frigging damn)

Its a whack fest in my apartment today, even the dog is wondering what the hell I am doing.

Sorry for my frustration, this little pistol can be quite something.

Dry firing this pistol is the only way to disassemble correctly. It's right in the instructions. Cringe ever time I do it but it's designed to do this so it won't hurt the firearm. Glad to hear you got it back together. Great little pistol even with this annoying quirk.

Sorry for what? This forum is great for looking for some help and advise. Glad you got it back together again and it's working now.

This is why I hate Ruger .22's...any mark #, doesn't matter. They are simply horrible to take apart, I love shooting them {Mk1 here} but I will never, ever field strip that son of a b1tch ever again! {and at least the Mk1 is all steel. You can hit it without worrying about breaking the frame}.

OP, get a boresnake, aerosol cleaner and remoil. When it gets dirty, hose the fu<ker down, snake it, spray oil, a wipe down with a rag and you're done. My 2 cents {I got frustrated just reading your woes as I've been there several times before...never again, I swear it!}.
