I have been on a mission to buy pistols of late but am a big revolver fan.

I have been wondering about the Dan Wessen revolvers that have changeable bbls? Are they good? Worth while? Accurate? I have looked at them in the past but never got to the point of buying one.

BAsically I am planning ahead in time to plan my next purchase, no money right now!

As an alternate choice I am thinking about the single shot guns by Thompson Center.

I had a DW back in 1980's.
The threaded ring securing the barrel at the muzzle stripped very easily.
I don't see the need to buy a DW since you can only install a 4 + " or 6" barrel.
A good Ruger GP-100 will make you happy.

I posted my Dan Wesson .357 Hunter Pac awhile back. I priced it at the lowest I was willing to part with it. Zero interest ( Not cheap!).I have personally never seen the Hunter for sale in Canada. Guess I'll have to wait until the Python craze dies down. Beautiful guns. Small and great feel in the hand. Short drop hammer.

I have one in now, I have never heard of the nut stripping, ,maybe cross threaded? they have a very simple action, and quite fast double action.
Had a pistol pack years ago, but at time I was shooting more 45 auto, now it is 50-50.
they are not that easy to find, but good guns.
I seen a pack for sale for 800.oo which to my way of thinking is about 1/2 price.

I have a lot of revolvers including a Dan Wesson 15-2 in beautiful shape.

It’s an excellent revolver and very accurate. You can get spring kits for them direct through Wolff springs of you wish to really tune the actions up. The double action on mine is really sweet. Such a short pull!! The single action is also very good. Right now their one of the best used revolver buys in my opinion. Not popular enough command the premium pricing yet make no mistake, they are made to a fine standard.

The new DW model 715’s made by CZ are over $2300 and can be purchased at Prophet River.

The DW lockwork is most similar to the Colt Trooper MK V and King Cobra revolvers but with the DW tension barrel system I believe the DW is better. One benefit to the system is you can always adjust the barrel cylinder gap to minimum specs even as the revolver wears through thousands of rounds. They were designed to be shot for a lifetime.

Even some new S&W performance center revolvers have gone to the same tensioned barrel system recently. Long range pistol shooters such as those that compete in silhouette shooting revered the DW’s for their fine accuracy.

The old ones came in a nice package especially the Hunter packs with the extra barrels! I’m still looking for one of those.

If accuracy is your jam the Thompson Center Contenders are hard to beat!! Again used prices are fantastic right now. Even better than the DW Revolvers!!! Thompson Center pistols seem to rule the roost at the long range silhouette competitions which should tell you something about their accuracy. Try hitting a 50lb ram sized target at 200M with a pistol!!! You need a very accurate piece to allow that to happen.

Every thread is better with pics so here’s mine. It’s handy haveing multiple calibers / barres in one gun! Once you’ve mastered its use it’s easy to go from .22 to 357Maximum or even wildcat calibers. The rabbit hole goes deep with these!

Thanks for the response. I owe (myself) $500 for the P210 I bought so that is the first mission. Some of the Thompson calibres are (in my view) oddball but there are normal calibres as well. I still don't understand the Thompson lineup, seems some don't mix and match, some do. I think I'll start looking hard for the 15-2 Dan Wesson in the next couple weeks. As you state the prices are not that bad right now. I like the Hunter Pack but no 12-6, don't know how that would work.

It would have to be transferred to a gunsmith first where you’d pay to have the smallest barrel destroyed. That gunsmith would in turn transfer the gun to you after they have it officially reclassified. There may be an easier way to do it like if the seller simply turns in the prohib barrel in to police for destruction and has the frame reclassified through them but I’ve never heard of that.

Sounds like more trouble than it is worth.

Looking like I bought a Dan Wesson wheel gun. Pay the man tomorrow. Can't post photos for a bit. Looking forward to delivery. It is a 14-2 with 6" bbl.

DW's are generally more accurate than Smiths and Colts - the barrel is under tension, and the cylinder locks at the crane/frame junction. If it feels like its going out of time, simply tighten the side plate screw, that should fix it.

I took my new to me Dan Wesson 14-2 to the range. Amazing gun. The last 6 rounds I shot I rested the butt on the table, bbl. was free, not on a rest. I fired 6 shots and all them were touching one another. This is at 10 yards. I have never done that good before. The sights are amazing, best sights I have in a HG.

Glad you like it , still use the pink paint on the front sight? looks sissy, but worked for me, the action on those are different than smith's and colts, short stroke on the double action. smooth.
there was a pistol pack at a dealer in B.C., cheap as hell, but it sold before I got hold of him, it was the same price as that one you just bought from me.

I don't understand your comment about the nut at the muzzle stripping easily. I have one and have never come close to stripping the muzzle nut. The only thing I do now is put a couple drops of oil on it before putting it together since when I got the revolver it was a struggle to remove that nut after an apparently long time of never being touched. Those are fine threads and if not careful can be cross threaded very easily.

There are also 8" and 10" bbls as well as 12" and 14" that I have seen in the USA but never Canada.
