I have coveted a Dan Wesson revolver, with the interchangeable barrels, since I started shooting in the 80's. Just always thought a revolver that could change barrel lengths to suit the owner was a neat idea, but I never really researched the gun, don't recall any really bad or really good reviews.

Anyway, I was lucky enough to get 12(6) status way back when and a couple of opportunities to get one of these sets have come up. Now that I seriously have a chance to get a Dan Wesson revolver set of my own, I need to know more. Knowing more will help convince the wife, too -- she doesn't believe any of my rationalizations for a new gun, ever, but she likes it when I work on them enough to make them sound good. ;)

Does anybody have any feedback over this firearm? Any owners want to show off their prize? Anybody want to admit it is just a safe queen? Do you change the barrels often, or at all, or did you just find the one barrel you like best and leave the others in the box? Are there any serious problems or really awesome things about this revolver I should know about?

Good for you!! I almost bought one when I was in Victoria in the mid 80's. Was just over $400 at that time. Now days, I have seen them go for anywhere from $600 to over $1000easy, depending on whats included/shape. Altho I didnt get an actual pistol pak, I have acquired a few DW's over the years and they have interchangeable barrels. Damn fine piece of gear for sure. Well made, shoot like a dream. Nothing like shooting the 44mag with the 10in barrel on it, then switching down to the 4in. Makes the gun feel light as a feather. I am still looking for the 6in bbl/shroud for the Model15 357 .

Dan Wesson revolvers are really quite fascinating (if you're a revolver guy :D ) The things that you would think might work against them from an accuracy perspective, actually work for them. They are pretty much always (always in my experience) very accurate. I've heard lots of reasons for this, but I think it's a combination of the B/C gap being quite tight when set with the guage and the tension of the barrel nut and shroud working to stiffen the barrel by stretching it. It also doesn't hurt that the latch is on the front of the crane which provides extra support at the mouth of the cylinder - just like a decent PPC gun. Occaisionally, you'll find a DW that feels like it's going out of time (the cylinder locking after the hammer releases) but 9 out of 10 times if you check the side plate screws, you'll find that one or more of them is loose and if you tighten them up, it'll be back in time. Dan Wessons really represented a re-think of how a revolver should be designed, the only confusing thing is that they weren't more succesfull.
 
Ive had the Pistol pack for years.8",6",4",and the2".
Great set up for competing if using revolvers. 6"for PPC. 4"for IDPA or IPSC and if you
want to shoot in the snub division 2".What it comes down to is you are always shooting
the same gun.The same grip ,trigger same action.The only dif is your sight radius.You are using the same gear.Holsters(unless you are required to go to a specific holster) speed loaders etc.
 
I've polished it since, but don't have any more recent pics, so the pic I got from epps before I bought it, will have to do.

Model 15 "Pistol Pack"

I see Armco has/had a blued one up on the site with 2", 4", 6" and 8" barrels.

Always intrigued me but personally I've never owned one.

Although I do have 12(6) and I do enjoy my S&W 19's in 2 3/4" & 4" and S&W 586 6".

Good luck with your venture, though.

That's the great thing about these revolvers! You'd only need four instead of ten.

I think 2 chambered in .357, 2 in .44, one of each in stainless and blue of course and then three or four barrels for each of them! Yes, complete sets of barrels in stainless and blue, I don't think the mix-and-match look would work. I could be wrong . . .

What more could you possibly want?

I would need 6. Would want a .22 and a fixed barrel .357
 
I have 2 6" shrouds and an 8" barrel and shroud for my 357. Wish I could have the whole set. ####ing 12 class bull#### gov't #######s.
 
When I lived in the US I had a.38/.357 DW with a 6" bbl. and a 4". I never used the 4". But I got a local gunsmith to make me a .22 bbl. and some inserts. It was just nifty.
 
I am buying one of these this coming weekend and I hate that I can't have all the barrels. The owner has all 4 in 357 and wants to get out of handguns. He has a 12.6.

The revolver is restricted but the short two barrels are prohib or how exactly does it work?

I have the whole set.8", 6",4" & 2"( there is a great joke here but I wont go there ;).
very accurate.great finish.fits most smith k frame holster and takes k frame speed loaders.
Great if you shoot multiple disciplines in the games. 8" if you hunt or shoot far, 6" for PPC,4" for IDPA,2 inch if you want to go into snubby match.Nice thing is your always shooting the same gun,same trigger,grip, action same gear. only your sight radius changes.Also because of the square post grip
its easy to change out grip to larger target grips ,round butt or snuby grips if you choose.
Down side,harder to fine parts.And because its so fine ( closer tolerances) maybe not as rugged or as forgiving to rough to bad maintanance as a Ruger or Smith.
 
You sir, just possibly might be a dirty rotten scoundrel as I have to wait until next saturday to pick it up. I do however have 3 boxes of .38 and 4 boxes of .357 waiting for saturday.

I'm meeting my buddy at the range and he's bringing his ~4.5" ruger redhawk. He however, is a bastard because his rich sister gave it to him as a present cause he was into guns, works as a guide and should have a big gun to protect himself with.

It's ok thought because his sister and I have been friends since we were born and she's super hot at 29 and I like when I go over to swim in her parents pool with her when she is in town.

Just dammit, but at least I get to have my nice revolver next saturday.

Have one with the 6 in and a 8 in. Always use the 6 in, will probably have my gunsmith cut the 8 in to 4 and a half.

I love this revolver, smooth trigger, not too heavy, very nice finish...

Used to have a gp 100, sold it because i always use th Dan Wesson.
