I have the opportunity to pick up a Dan Wesson 744, stainless with vent rib barrel. Seller states it is in very good condition. I have not yet seen any pictures of this particular gun. I read the controversy and stages that the Dan Wesson company went through. I have no idea if this is a Palmer version. Not being overly familiar with the finer points of revolvers in general especially Dan Wesson's I thought I would ask you folks for your thoughts and experiences on the DW M-744. Thanks

Myself I own a Monson era Model 44 with eight inch shrouded barrel. These heavy beasts really tame the recoil down and one can really concentrate on making smaller groups IMO.

If the timing is good and everything works as it's should and the bore is in good or better shape, I would go for it if I was in your shoes.

So they are not light, 56 ounces for mine IIRC.

my 2 bits

Not sure if this one has a shrouded barrel or not I will have to ask. The barrel is 4" so it will be lighter than your 8 incher for sure. Yes I have a 12/6. Thanks for your reply.

Sorry guys, I did mean a fully shrouded barrel, with the right to the lower part of barrel muzzle underlug.

cheers

Edit: Don't forget to ask if the barrel and shroud disassembly wrench(?) is included in the sale. Why you are at it, ask the condition of keyed muzzle cap where this wrench bites into for takedown. Not 100% if my terminology is correct or otherwise. Some people have actually locktited this in place so it won't lossen in repeated firing of heavy handloads for metallic silhouette. I know mine is!

just info

No biggie Brutus. Just keeping things clear for any noobs doing the:confused:. I have a couple of the baby brothers (.357) one is a complete Hunter Pac, minus the prohib barrel and shroud. Great gun design that can be tweeked and tuned to any personal shooting taste. Would love a .44. I have a Redhawk and super R.H. along with a Raging Bull and mint 29-2 but I'd still love to have a .44 Monson-made DW!!
