Dangerous Game Scope

Years ago I had Bevan King make my up a custom 416 Weatherby. I have yet to shoot it and I'm just now getting around to putting it into action. I'm looking for suggestions on budget to mid priced dangerous game Scopes.
I'm looking for plenty of eye relief and I need a scope that can handle the abuse and if it can't, it must have a strong warranty. Good glass quality, but doesn't need to be Schmidt & Bender quality.
I'm open to used Scopes as well as new.

The old standby is the Leupold VX-3 (or Vari-X III) in 1.5-5x20. There is a NIB model on EE right now you should grab (no not mine).
This has been the most recommended scope for DG in Africa for many years.
Have a couple of these scopes and have been very happy with them for 20 years. One is on my BLR in 358 Win and the other is on my custom LH Ruger in 376 Steyr (which sports a Bevan King barrel). Have harvested ny fair share of big game with these rifles, from moose to elk and bison.

I have a 1.5-6x42 Kahles and a 1.5-6x42 S&B on my LH Sako's in 9.3x62 and FS 30-06. These are bright scopes with larger fields of view, both w/ German #4 reticles. Bought both used for good prices. So, with some vigilance, you can come across some great glass at decent prices for your rifle.

Trijicon also makes a 1-4x242 with the tritium dot or post reticle. I have the green post on my custom LH Ruger 416 Taylor that sports a Bevan King barrel.
Hope you have as much fun with yours, as I do with mine!

1big, You are not clear about what dangerous game you are referencing to.
You did use the word budget to mid range in your post, not sure where to go from there.
I would suggest something with a large field of view and a well defined and very visible reticle. Budget=Bushnell midrange= Leupold

Find an old Leupold M7 or M8 3X scope, and never look back.

Tough as nails, bright sharp optics, very reliable friction adjustments, light weight, just set it and forget it for the next 20 years with the same load.

I carried one on my 270 Win sheep rifle for years. That thing took a beating and was always ready. My father in law killed a huge ram with it at around 300 yards when he was 76 years young.

An ancient 358 Norma Magnum is the same. One shot in the Spring and again one shot every Fall to confirm zero. Never had to make any adjustments unless I had changed the load. Same with several 375 H&H.

Had one on a 375 Wby that drove 270s at 3000 and 300 Partitions to 2800. Took the scope off when I sold the rifle, and it is still going strong.

There are actually lots of them out there, but not many for sale. If you find one, grab it!

I second the recommendation for the Leupold M8 3X. I have two and will never sell. Perfect combination of eye relief, field of view and magnification. Great optics and Leupold warranty. Only downside is they are not easy to find. I watched the EE for years to get mine. But when they come up they are usually reasonably priced. Plus they have a longer tube than a VX1-4 or FX 2.5 so easy to mount on a long magnum action.

Nikon Monarch African 1-4x20
Older scope but a true 1 power on the low end and very nice glass and reasonable inexpensive. You will need to track down a used one as Nikon is not making scopes any more.

This, and I'll add a Weaver v3 1-3 if you can find one. I have one on my 375 Wby, it's been there for 30 years or so. - dan
