Daniel Defense BCG = FAIL? Maybe... when compared to Stag.

@ beltfed: Their website states the CARRIER is MPI, not the bolt.

@trinimon: There aren't any rejectable defects on my DD part - it's eminently usable - just not as well made as the Stag part I compared it to.

Forgot to mention - both the Stag and DD bolts came with black Crane o-rings already installed.

What about the part on the carrier where the finish didn't take? Wouldn't that comply? Even if it was, would you have to go through DD yourself or through your authorized dealer?

If I was bothered about it, I'd get it warrantied. In reality though, it's going to lose a lot more finish than that after the first 1000 rounds so I'm not concerned.

Is it common with other carriers not to mark the gas key bolts?

My suspicion is that most (all?) manufacturers buy fasteners from bulk suppliers like Fastenal to install in the gas keys. It could well be that whether they are marked or not depends on where they got the best quote on the most recent batch.

Typically though, graded fasteners are always marked.

It IS possible the DD fasteners are marked circumferentially around the head, but I'm not unstaking the key to find out.

Interesting read for sure.

But its hard to argue with the price of a DD BCG... particulary when many places are showing " Out of Stock" on FA BCG's.

Oh well... my Norc BCG works swell

Hmm...you just gave me a thought. I wonder how the Norc BCG holds up against the ones presented here? Claven2, it's a shame you don't have a new Norc BCG available to give an equally thorough review on.

I'd love to get a Spike's BCG

Alas, I don't own a Norinco AR. If I had a Norc BCG, I'd add it into the mix happily. At some point, I'll maybe get my mits on the new Canadian-made NEA BCG and see how it stacks up as well. To date, I haven't seen an NEA BCG since they started making their own.

Isn't that one of their Nickel-Boron plated units? If so, it would not really be comparing apples to apples. Spikes does sell a parkerized BCG that is more comparable. I do know Spikes doesn't make these themselves, they are outsourced, though I'm not sure whom to.

Nevertheless, I've yet to hear anything particularly bad about the Spikes stuff. Even the DD unit I'm saying is slightly less nice than my Stag parts is still pretty nice and I wouldn't discourage anyone from purchasing one.

The norc bcg is alright but its not a FA and definitely not as nice as the DD in regards to the topics discussed by claven
(first hand experience with both the DD and norc)

Yeah, true. I think it's like $100+ more than the phosphate version. But sure would be nice. :0
