Danish Breda Garand, Longbranch No4 MkI*, Pics added!

I saw those Breda trigger groups one the Numrich website. Can we import those complete trigger groups from the US? Or is export pretty much prohibited along with barrels and receivers? Those ITAR regulations are not very clear - probably on purpose too!

I have a Breda in my collection. I think I have a few M1 actions around here, with the barrels attached. I will have to find them and check them out to see if any Bredas.
I think the BM 59s are well built, the one I bought off Gunnutz a few years ago as in great shape.

tplumtree,

You can order those Trigger groups from Numrich. I got one and they are in almost MINT condition! I have a complete rifle in parts just waiting for Nick at Vulcan to get his Criterion barrels in so that I can have it built.

See if there are any other parts (other than bolts, barrels, scopes, flash hiders) for any of your rifles so that you can order them all at once as they charge $25.00 export fee and shipping isn't that cheap. You can do an order from them for up to $200 US (Before shipping and fees) that way you get the most stuff and only pay the export and shipping fees once.

I order from them from time to time, but I always wait until I at least have $100 or so for my order so that I don't pay the fees that often.

Cheers,

Ian

Thanks for the info Smitsauce. That $25 export fee at Numrich kind of sucks but they will ship up to $200 to Canada, so that fee may cover the cost of the export license under ITAR. I just picked up my Breda receiver from Lever Arms in Vancouver today $60. The guy behind the counter told me they got a large lot of them in about 20 years ago and I bought one of the last ones. They're now sold out!

Lever was a great source for the Breda receivers. These all came from ex-Danish rifles which were stripped down and sold as parts kits, less receivers, in the US. I bought quite a few of the Breda receivers from them and found them to be in excellent overall condition, except for most needing a re-parkerizing. Early on they even had Springfield and Winchester receivers for sale.

Some yrs ago there was a big kerfuffle in the news over a quantity of stripped Garand receivers being impounded on the way to the US. I wonder what ever became of these.

I went camping and hiking in the mountains last weekend for Easter with my family. The weather was awesome and I had brought along my '42 Longbranch for bear/cougar protection. The weather was awesome, and I thought some pictures of a Canadian rifle in the Canadian backcountry would look awesome so I took some. Hope you enjoy them!

Does anyone know for sure what the star markings are about?

"Does anyone know for sure what the star markings are about?"

The stock has the famous Ishapor screw. My suggestion is that is an Indian arsenal marking, and maybe not a traditional balanced 5-pt star but a different character.

I read on a EE add for a P14(I think) where the guy said that the star marking on the receiver was to signify that the bolt lugs were elongated to work better in the mud during WWI or something to that effect. The add is gone now, so I can't confirm what was said.

Try posting that specific question in a new thread and I am sure you will get the answer.

Cheers,

Ian
