Hello all,

My apologies if this has been done to death...

I have a Danish Beretta M1 Garand. I bought it about 10 years ago for a really good price, and I was shocked to see what some of them go for now.

From my original thread, the rifle was made in November 1961. The bolt and receiver are stamped with "P.B. 3###", and the stock serial # matches the receiver serial #.

The sight is stamped BMR (so, Breda, not Beretta), and it has a VAR barrel.

What would it be worth now, and what other info could help make this determination?

Thanks.

Pics (because everyone likes those) when I get hosting sorted out.

Just so you have some reference, when Lever Arms, then owned by Allen Lever, brought it the Danish Garands, they sold for $ 150.00 per rifle. Some had the stocks replaced with aftermarket plastic stocks as the issue ones were in poor condition. I bought 10 of them for $ 1,400.00, Allen called them the "Family pack" or some such nonsense. I didn't keep any of them....yes I'm still kicking myself for that now.

You rifle, going by current market value, is worth between $ 600.00 to $ 1,000.00 give or take a couple of hundred bucks.

From previous EE ads, internet forums etc, you could fetch 12-14 hundred . Try to build up a Danish M-1 from Italian parts nowadays will set you back those amounts with ease.

Some of the last ones I'd seen seemed to have been solidly in the $16-1800 range, with a few around $2200, but those didn't seem to be Danish/ Beretta.

These don't seem to come up all that often, which makes it tough to track. Thanks for all the info so far!

Danish Garands are very high quality, parts were made with the very latest updates. Var barrels are regarded to be match quality.

Bolt and action match manuf is a pluss, VAR barrel, so long as it's a mint bore --- $1400 to $1600...

I sold a blonde stock Lever Arms select Breda for $1700 at auction earlier this year. Maybe under market by a few hundred.

As mentioned the VAR barrels have a very good reputation. To be an original from the Italian plant, the barrel would be marked BSid, not VAR. Yours was changed later in service for one from Denmark's own arsenal. Not to fret - actually worth as much or more than a factory barrel.

The Beech stock is a Dane replacement as well.

If you sold it for anything less than $1000 you'd be giving it away and should have your noggin examined.
$1000-1500 you'd be giving a steal of a deal.
$1500-1700 is a pretty damned good deal and I think currently
$1800 is in line with market value.
$1900 - $2000 and I think you are wishful thinking.
+ $2000 you are a dreamer.

Beech is original if the rifle is an Italian Breda or Beretta. Only USGI surplus or takeoff Garand stocks were walnut.

I have a two-digit Italian rifle with the beech stock serialized to the rifle on the flat of the butt. Many Danish rifles have the SN stamped on the thin bottom edge of the butt, for on the rack visibility and accountability.
