Anyone use Danner Pronghorns? I searched around and I haven't seen a review of them from any of you.

How long do they last? I'm generally pretty tough on my boots and I want a comfy, high quality, will last me a while, breathable, wicking boot.

I'm looking at an 8" 400gr thinsulate one.

What do you guys like about them? Any of you recommend any other boots?

I have 2 pair, the 400 and the 1000, The boot fits me great, they are nice and light, water proof. But they don't have a lot of ankle support. They are great for most hunting situations. I spent alot of time crawling through cut blocks, but if i was heading sheep hunting i would choose somthing with more support. I have used the 400 in temps as low as -20 and as long as I was walking with good socks my feet have stayed warm. Hope this helps.

Sorry have not used the prongorn's but have been wearing Danner Canadian's for the past 8 years and I hope I will never have to replace them.

Quality and comfort are A+

thanks for the replies guys.

nwt2002 - are the 400s too hot/warm to hunt with in the fall? Do they wick moisture away well?

Jimmy -- has the tread lasted that long or have you replaced the tread?

tbm, the 400's are all around a good boot for sept to late oct season. I can't really say the boots wick away moisture, thats all in the socks,

I use high quality socks, ( ithink they are called smart wool, I only know what the package looks like) go to the nearest artsie fartsie high tech yuppie shop and have a talk with people in the boot section. they should be able to help you with good socks for all your hiking needs.
hope this helps.

oh yah get danner's boot dressing. I find that stuff works the best on keeping the boots looking and performing like new.

Just bought myself some new boots for the upcoming hunting season, did a bounch of research and boiled it down to these two:
http://www.sportiva.com/products/prod/239
http://www.scarpa.com/scarpa.php

Went with the Sportivas, A guy I work with has had a pair for 3 years now, he uses them for fire fighting, tree planting and all round bush work(plus he wears them every day for every thing) and they look awesome, could use a new sole but thats it. I paid $279.99 can. Hand made Italian can't go wrong! Just my .02!...Good luck with what ever boot you chose!

Tread still going strong, showing minor wear but I only wear then in the bush. Clean them at the end of the hunting season and put them away.

I also wear a thin Poly Propylene liner sock and a good real wool sock over top, keeps your feet warm and dry.

Cheers

I like mine. Light, comfortable, dry & good support for any hunting I've used them for to date. I have used them for only 3 seasons but so far so good.
