I heard from someone that the dao pistols have terrible accuracy. Can someone elaborate on this issue? Are they terrible for accuracy or is it all in the shooter? Im asking because I am planning on getting one, specifically a Ruger P89 DAO 9mm. Thanks.

You can get to be accurate with a DAO but you can never get as good as a single action or a DA/SA, SA or Safe action.

The higher trigger pull of the DAO is constant for all trigger pulls. More force required makes more work which makes accurcy less.

It comes down to what you want it for.

Plinking? Great fun gun.

IPSC...............well there you will run into problems. You will get hammered by DA/SA guns and safe action in Production division. But then again it will still be fun.

+1.
For a last ditch defensive weapon..no problem, but as a 'games' gun, you'll be swimming uphill...
The Sig DAK may be an exception, but the only way it would work for you well would be if it was the only type of system that you used.

disagree, a good clean and crisp DA action is easier to group well with than a SA in the same gun. Properly utilized, a DA trigger gives you a smoother pull and better control of a firearm. SA triggers will often give you a bit of a snap when the sear breaks, so you go from no movement, to a sudden movement, whereas DA triggers give you constant movement throughout, allowing you to steady your sights etc.
Now a gun that is dedicated SA is a different story altogether, I am talking about guns that are DA/SA combos vs DA only. the only thing about DA that sucks is the heavier trigger pull that often comes with them.
And if I hear much more about Glock "Safe Action" I am going to puke, that is a marketing term, and doesn't describe the action of the pistol. A Glock is a DA gun.

I would also concur that a DAO can be as accurate, or possibly more so, than a DA/SA ("TDA") pistol. My work gun is DAO (S&W 5946), and it is every bit as accurate as my Sig P220, if not more so.

DAO is harder to shoot "fast" than a single-action trigger, but consistency from first shot to last may IMHO make it even easier for a new shooter to learn to shoot accurately with... DAO really forces one to concentrate on a smooth squeeze, with focus on the fore-sight. Besides the liability concern of a single-action trigger, I'm sure this is why so many law enforcement agencies have switched to DAO. (Nobody has enough time or money to train properly).

Try it - you may very well like it.

Cheers,

Neal
