Hi, i bought a t/c hawken 54 cal and I would like to have data load for it
I've bought tripple seven fffg as it was the only thing they had.
I've heard that ffg is better but I have this for now.
I've heard I just have to follow ffg load data but reduce them by 10-15% for fffg is that true?
thanks for any infos about tripple seven fffg load data for 54 cal
thanks
Gab

I use 90 grains of FFFG (Triple Seven) in my .54's with a 230 grain round ball or a Lee "R.E.A.L." conical bullet. It works fine in my TC Hawken and Lyman Trade Rifle. The Triple Seven performs consistently (quite accurate) and is very easy to clean with ordinary water.

Depends what you want to do with it. If you are not out to kill anything then don't go for a full power load. They tend to be more accurate with a mid load.

thanks for reply guys. I shoot round ball to practice but i bought t/c maxi hunter (or maxi something :p) for deer/bear

btw conical are easy to load but patch and roundball are really hard to push the first inch, is it normal or Should I try a thinner patch?
i use .018 patch with .535 ball
and am I suppose to find the patch after I've shot or it desintegrate?
thanks alot

90 gr 777 behind a 430 gr TC maxi ball. I am going to try 90 gr 777 20 gr. cornmeal and the maxi ball. I heard the corn meal acts like a wad and improves accuracy of patched round balls too. Worth a try IMHO

The patches will not travel far, and if there is any side wind at all they will be just off the flight path. I would say your ball/patch combo is too tight. Try usng .530 balls with the 18th patch, or drop to a 10th patch with the larger ball. Also, a bore button behing the patched ball will help protect the patch from burn out using the hotter powder you have. I might also add that a .54 cal round ball is all that is needed for just about anything around here.

I use .535 pure lead ball and .012" cotton ticking over 90gr of triple-7 FFg. Tooney sized 3 round groops at 50 yards. Will also deal out the pain to any white-tail within 100 yards or so.

Rifle is a Lyman Great Plains with 1:60 twist.

YA-HOO ---- My first black powder anything--A 54 cal Lyman Deerstalker flintlock in the left-hand configuration had the final payment made on it today and boy do I like the way those rifles are fitted together and shoot.A few of my friends have let me shoot their right-handed Deerstalkers a fair amount but it's just not the same and getting my hands on my lefty model has proven to be a task for a number of reasons. The black powder method is a whole new game to me and I'm really looking forward it.
Remember Folks--- Long barreled Flintlocks are NOT considered "Firearms" and NO licenses are required for legal ownership in Canada.
