Date of manufacture

I have a buddy who just bought a Remington Nylon and would like to know when it was made, seriel # is 23867xx

You date Remington rifles by the two or three alpha letters stamped on the left side of the barrel just ahead of the receiver.
Go to the Remington forum at RimfireCentral and they have a sticky with the conversion table.

I copied & pasted some of the date code definitions:

"Based on the article by Donald Simmons in the 1991 Gun Digest I've
been able to decode the numerical month and year manufacturing codes
for the Nylon 66 and other models.
The coding is based on a two letter code. The first letter is the
month and the second is the year. From what I can determine this two
letter code is stamped on the left side of the barrel forward of the
receiver cover just above the stock line. An example would be my
Mohawk 10C whose code is WZ. W is August, Z is 1975, so mine was made
in August of 1975.

Something I just noticed when I wrote the code out is that is spells
BLACKPOWDER X ! I wonder how many of us knew that???
