Find a Dixie Gun Works catalogue and try page 649. gives enough info so you can roughly get close to a date . alot of other useful info as well. regards
iirc the Dixie catalogue will help with the Smoot and a couple of others but not the 1858,NMA etc.

If you are lucky you will get a month and a year...like August of 1863
it's a slow process over there but they do answer eventually,and it's the only accurate source I know of for getting the originals' dates.

Received a p.m. over there & was told that the 'D' stamped on the frame & trigger guard along with the serial number put it in the first part of November of 1864. Another member figures it was a Civil War piece. Albeit if it were it would have only seen 5 or 6 months of the actual war.
