Hi All,
I've got my grandfather's old Cooey Model 60 and I'm trying to figure out how old it is, can anyone give me a hand? It was not factory drilled for a scope mount, so I know its an early one. On top of the receiver it reads COOEY REPEATER .22 CAL. and on the side it reads MODEL 60.

Any help you can give me would be appreciated. It's a great old gun that I plan to keep forever, I'd just like to know more about it. My grandfather used it to shoot groundhogs on the farm growing up, now I use it for the same purpose 50 years later. It would be nice to know if it was from the 40's 50's or 60's.

No way of knowing the exact date of manufacture. Model 60's were made between 1939 and 1965-66. In 1967 it was replaced by the model 600 under Winchester. There are features on some 60's that could give you an indication if it was an early gun or late model, such as stock type, bolt knob etc...but I forget way more then I remember. Surely the well know Cooey boys will jump in with tons of info for you

Not much more to say about dating it. If it has flat head screws it's roughly before 1956. If it has Phillips head screws it is after that. A pic of it might show if it is an earlier stock.

I know that my grandfather changed at least one of the trigger guard screws, possibly both. One is a flat head, which may be original, the other is a stripped Robertson screw that I'm sure was my grandfather's handiwork. I'll try to get a picture of the stock up tomorrow.

Thanks for narrowing it down for me. That means it's been around longer than my parents have. I'm amazed how a cheap firearm like this can still do a great job of getting rid of groundhogs 60+ years after it was made.
