Yes. Dave wants to build a 6.5x55 rifle some time down the road so what are my options? I would like it to be general purpose (targets, hunting, plinking). I don't mind a heavy rifle but let's keep it reasonable. More evil looking, the better. :D

Mag feeding would be ideal.

I really have no clue when it comes to precision rifles.

Amen. Fantastic round. Just be aware that while close, the base of the case on the 6.5X55 is slightly larger than a 308 so if you are using a 6.5X55 in an action with a 308 bolt face, it may be a tad snug - it works, but there can be wonky ejections.:)feedTroll:)

Take your pick...

Rem 700 SPS, Get a cool tactical stock (rifle-stocks dot com) add a good custom barrel like a Krieger, and get a 'smith to throw it together and you will have a killer gat for under 2 grand

right on, I never thought I would hear the word "GAT" and 6.5x55 mauser in the same sentence.

I dont think the 6.5x55 has really caught on in compton yet.
they don't know what they are missing

I have a nice Winchester M70 in Swede. Have several F class rifles on Savage single shot actions in 6.5 x 55.

I have recently made a 260 rem Improved. This is a 308 case necked down to 6.5 (think 243 only bigger bullet). The blown out case increases case capacity to about the same as the Swede.

A very good caliber. Good for F Clas at 1000 yds. And good for hogs, deer and moose. Recoil is about same as a 308, maybe a bit less.

I can't do it right now my server isn't workingg very good.
There isn't any phone lines into where I live, an everything goes through the high school dial up.1.00 an hr.
I'll try later to night.

The Swede deserves a mid length action. The nicest commercial would be a SAKO but a Tikka is alot less money. From there, barrel to the length and contour that suits. Stocks are available in many configurations so pick one that suits your fancy.

The Tikka Varminter might just suit all of you needs. Paint it black if that floats your boat.

Another option would be the new Savage SA center feed D mag. These can hold a 3.00" cartridge so a Swede will fit nicely. With the accutrigger, you don't need to spend more money there.

Rems are nice too but I feel the mag a schnick short.

Sure, why not?

I was contemplating using a commercial 96 action for my own build, but then I settled on using a 98 action because of the availability of aftermarket parts. Still not a whole lot out there but the 98 is slightly ahead. That and I have a C3 wood stock I want to use.
