Spent the morning at the rifle range working up loads for a few rifles.

Beautiful weather - about 22c - and just a little breeze. Not another soul around so I could just shoot at my own pace.

4 different loads for the Hi-Wall show pretty typical group progression and movement of point of impact on this 100 yard target.

Some days God just smiles on you and you are rewarded with a group like this. :D

The Wizzum didn't perform too bad either! ;)

190 grain Hornady BTSP @ 2920 fps. 3/4" group @ 100 yards.

About an inch and a half group with the 250 Savage. 110 grain Accubond @ 2550 fps. Still working up different powders and bullets for this rifle but to tell the truth I could take it hunting "as-is" tomorrow. I could probably tighten up the group a little more with something more powerful than the 1 1/2-4 Scope I have mounted.

That 1885 is sweet, as is your little 250-3000!

I had a great load for the .270 using RL22 and 130 gr X BT. I always wondered what it would do out of a 28" barreled .270 like your rifle. It was the max load from the Barnes #1 manual and it was hot, but gave better velocity out of a 22" Mountain Rifle than the number on your target. Can't say it shot a 5/16" group though!

Have you tried the 100gr Partition or the 80gr TTSX in your little Ruger?
 
Thats a sweet little rifle range for such a bustlin community. Looks like a great place for loud-mouth with a very loud muzzle braked boomer to play. Might have to stop in on my way to hunt the gulches of the Mighty Fraser this year.

I am planning on trying both the little TTSX and Partition in the 250 when I can lay my hands on them. It seems that 25 calibre bullets are a rare breed here in the Cariboo! LoL

The 1885 is still a fair bit away from it's maximum with the RL22 - 130 Solid Base combination. The primers are still well rounded and the cases show no sign of stickiness. I am going to load up a dozen of the 58 grain loads and try them again. If accuracy is anywhere near as nice as that tiny little group I think I will stop there and not worry about a bit more velocity. :)

It is a nice range even with the 300 yard "target berm" being closed after the club was informed that it doesn't conform to the safety requirements.

I personally think it would be a LOT more popular if the Ministry of Highways ever graded and graveled the road leading out to the clubhouse & range. :rolleyes:

Yes, I have owned some very accurate rifles over the years and that little Browning ranks right up there with best of them. :cool: It also has - as you are aware - vicious recoil if you don't get a good grip on her when shooting! LoL

That's nothing. If you look to the left of the rifle range... that's not a berm, that's the hill coming DOWN from the shotgun range. That's right... the shotgun range overlooks the rifle range. So anytime someone is on the shotgun range the rifle range is shut down.

Did I mention that the shotgun range doubles as camping during events? There was an archery competition and that's where everyone was camping. The crappy part is there was someone still camping there AFTER the weekend so the rifle range was closed I think until the guy left Tuesday.

The road is bad but the worst part has to be going through the gate! I swear there isn't a square inch of flat ground there :D



I usually head to the range between 9am and 10am so I have yet to see a single person shooting which is nice. Don't have to worry about waiting for someone else to stop shooting so you can change targets. :D
 
I went to the range yesterday morning. Made a coffee, stepped out the door, walked twenty paces, sat down and I was there :).

Probably do the same in about six hours from now :D
 
I mostly shoot alone at the range here.....and yes the berms here at like 20" high....just crazy .

Nice groups, I think ill try RL-22 in my 270 as well.

You might find some POI shifting if you use that same load in the fall . If find Rl-22 unstable. Probably explains how you got 3150+ with 58 gr.
