DCRA Fullbore championship - F'ers, why didn't you go?

"Was" is the big word there. Ammo is no longer supplied, so it cost me just as much to reload ammo as is costs someone shooting F Class. I still have to get to Ottawa to shoot the DCRA Matches. For me it is only an little over 8 hours drive each way. If I want to practice shooting more than 300m, I have to drive 4 hours to Borden. Ammo, gas, marker fees and a couple meals on the road for a one day trip is over $100.

My last "free trip" to Bisley in 2010 cost me a little over 4K.

The whole point is no one is getting the free ride anymore, those days are long gone.

Very True;

I was invited this year to BISLEY in F-Class and after considering all fees...it reached over 4500$

Same as TR guys, not more, not less.

Nobody rides free...

It's expensive, yes, but i'm confident that executive of DCRA will make good decision on a new formula for CFRC .... look foward to see what it will be!

My point was that TR did not get started on its own out of individuals pockets. TR got a huge shove forward by the military and even after 99% of the support was pulled TR was left with an annual routine, trophies, traditions, international links and a national following of shooters.

F-Class is starting from the ground up.

F Class in Canada had been around for over 20 years, and is growing much faster than TR. Even though the cadet shooting program trains about 50 kids a year to shoot fullbore TR, very few stick with it once the free ammo and free use of rifles are no longer available to them.

I would say getting into F Class is much cheaper than getting set up as a TR shooter when all is said and done.

From my peanut gallery perspective, I'm siding with Maynard on this one! Just seems easier to bring in more newbies into Precision/FClass shoots! :D

And yes, that FREE ammo ended on 25 April 1995, it was a tough day... we lost (and never heard from again) many ORA members who shot CA (or 12.x) USGI M14's back then.

Cheers and warm regards,

A ranking system like that used in TR where people could be scored against others of the same experience levels is a good suggestion. it might cut down on some of the intimidation factor.

Also, we need a way to encourage people of getting into the game without spending 5000+ on equipment.

20 Year olds who can only afford a rem 700, harris bipod and Bushnell elite still need to feel like there is a point to getting into the competition.

I've read about Factory gun shoots at other clubs, it would be nice to see that advanced along side the F/TR F/Open shoots.

When you look at alot of the high end rigs that the serious contenders have, its easy to get scared off.

I know Some F Class guys are really hot for the 700+ only idea, but as a first time competitor in the Victoria day matches this year, it was really nice to be able to start at 300, then 500, 600, and on back. I definitly think 2/3rds of the competition should be focused on the long range stuff, but I highly recommend keeping some shorter distances, if only 2+10 at each. If not, you might scare away alot of the younger shooters who don't normally shoot past their 100 m point at home.
