What a #####!...
The shoot was today. Arrived at the base last night. Tented it in the overflow space. Lotta folks there... I mean there was a LOTTA folks there.
Festivities got underway this morning... and some of these guys will be there two weeks...
Fair number of shooters both TR and F-class shot this match-up! Hey it was a TR gig so most of us f-class types had to shoot along side of 'em and play nice!
First relay got underway and it was calm cool and collected, same on the second relay and then all hell broke loose!...
I've seen rain but holy smokes Norm Barber looked like a prune in the Part 2, first relay. I'm thinking better him than me! They actually had to stop shooting and then resume. Us guys on the second relay had none of that nonsense and I'm sure we're going to hear about it.
I didn't have a problem in my first relay with 75-14V, shot five went bull-five leaking out right and low... pissed me off!
The second relay for me was in and out... the winds seemed calm and I thought I was reading them ok until shot 8 blew out to the 4 ring, waterline and moving faster than Haley's comet... son of a #####! So I ended up with a 74-9V
I saw Jim Bullock wiping his eyeglasses, his scope eye lense on this guy's shirt and that was funny. He only did one because his glasses were so wet I don't think this guys shirt coulda handled more water!
Leo was there running back and forth. This guy is very fluent in French! But I'm not sure you want to learn those words! Nothing in the world like a rain soaked Frenchmen running around without a toque on... kidding Leo... kidding...
Then came lunch... and after lunch we got ready for round three or Part 3... The winds were just a howling left to right... The TR types were mumbling something about 10 to 12 minutes. I think some were humming...
The first relay headed to the firing line and I thought if Norm get's hit one more time like the last he's going to just melt... It got darker and darker and then one of the officials told everyone to get themselves and their gear off the line real pronto... I'm thinking what's the rush. Nothing falling from the sky yet. Five minutes later wow... did the rain come down... this delayed the first relay, some folks got off a few shots but were allowed a non-convertible sighter... good thing Like you want to convert a 3 or a 4! ya right!
Then for the third part, second relay because were all nice guys on that one we get to shoot in no rain... but the wind!... I had 9 minutes on for a few shots... then found I was holding way right in a letup which is weird for the noodle cause I didn't click it off... I just had too much left on for this relay and didn't have the brains to take it off... Shot 3 in a let up sailed left ring 4 waterline... shot 10 same area... same bs but I didn't learn from 3 and then 13 wow way left out in the 4 and high...
I saw two of Bullocks shots go way high and I couldn't figure out what was doing this...
I had a side bet with Jim that if I scored a 5 for my first sighter I get him his dark rum... Jim came off the line saying 7.5 MOA ya right... first sighter 4 ring way to the right but easy enough to correct... This wind is what they apparently get at Bisley... but with much more water! Any more water and we'll be out there in submarines! So I didn't do good 72-5V.
Now Barber got a 75 9V or 7V but I think it was 9. He did some incredible shooting... I had no time to figure anything out. I was more worried about drowning I think.
Didn't get to see any posted scores but I'm sure Jim Thomson will have some blow by blows and scores on the DCRA site... I saw him motoring around on a golf cart... sweet!
I saw Bruce Condie there, Roy was there. Bruce was telling me his changes were wild right and wilder left... then left and right...
Terry you would have loved this shoot! To bad you couldn't take time off from hiding all the nuke stuff!
I was there only for the day, Norm and Roy are playing again tomorrow... good luck guys and a lot of our TR brethern are there for the whole competition and then there's more after that... I wish them all good shooting and guys it wouldn't hurt to check CTC for snorkels...
