DD gas with rail or Stag piston?

Set to drop $1500 on a complete rifle from which I can modify to suit my needs/desire. I would be happy with a gas or piston rifle, in my limited opinion each comes with its own benefits and draw backs. I am trying to decide between a DD gas with an omega rail or a Stag Arms piston with the regular forearm (not sure of the correct name). I definately want a rail and the omega rail seems pretty sweet to me. I am leaning towards the DD but I want to know if the Stag is a comparable manufacturer and if piston systems are really a deal breaker in this case. Thanks for the advice.

The piston isn’t necessary, I would go Daniel Defence. I’d say you’d get a better rifle for the money.

Stags are solid performers, doesn't take a backseat to any rifle out in the same price range. skip the piston use the savings and add a DD rail :)

Piston is not needed but can be nice if you do a lot of shooting (say 1000 rounds a weekend)...

Stag Vs. DD... You can't really compare them. Stag builds a great rifle at a very nice price point; but, DD takes it in quality (but you are paying for that).

I would get the DD because it will already be setup with the Omega (great rail btw).

Thanks for the advice, I have my eye on a DD V3. If I like what I feel and see when it arrives I will be taking it home just as soon as my ATT clears. Now I have to decide on some good optics with fixed 4 power and illuminated reticule for under $1000. Any suggestions?

For just over $1000.00 and 3X magnification I believe it is, you can look at a trijocon ACOG TA33. Forgive me if that's the improper model #. My local dealer has a few an they are awesome optics. I would have purchased one myself but I ended up going with the eotech/magnifier setup.

The ACCO Ta33 looks like it has everything I want in optics. I'm thinking either green horseshoe or red Chevron. It seems the yellow Chevron is washed out in bright light and difficult to see against a light color background. Any thoughts on reticle?
