DD MK18 optic and sights?

Good! Well, as long as your rifle is rated for the caliber, you'll be fine and I haven't heard of an AR not rated for 556 unless they just put 223 so they can sell to jurisdictions that ban military calibers. Different loads will shoot differently and you have to adjust your sights for them. With that being said, you won't notice a difference at Target Sports lol

I know the rifle can shoot the 5.56 it says so in the manual, but I was just wondering other then flying straighter at longer distances, what other differences will it make to the way the rifle operates. As I have read that DD put a different buffer spring in it to work with weaker .223 ammo.

I plan to try the 5.56 at Silverdale, Target sports is closed on and off for the next while as they are replacing the back stops, last week they installed one side.....I wont be able to shoot a rifle there till the renos are done and the CFO approves the back stop for lager calibers.

So I went to an even smaller range, which I didnt even think was possible LOL I went to Urban Tactical in Brantford and its only 50ft max. So yeah definalty not using the rifle to its potential there, but hopefully with the nice weather this week I can try it out at Silverdale. Ive always wanted to shoot steel targets and I hear they have a big gong at 200 yrds

I'm cross eye dominant as well. I can't even picture someone using their left eye to on any rifle when shot right handed (except one of those old school offset sights). Is your head like fully horizontal across the stock?

Yup I have to basically twist my head completely sideways, its terrible but I just have to deal with it. And I dont feel that bad about it anymore, because I went with a friend and he can shoot normally, and Im still more accurate then him with my cross eyed technique. Before I got to shoot it I was worried that I woudldnt even be able to shoot it anything close to accurate. I tired to do it other ways like left shoulder left eye, but it just feels even worse and I cant hit anything

I took some video and it does look really weird from behind how I have to shoot, compared to a normal shooter it looks like Im trying to eat the rifle

Man thats crazy, even though Im cross eye dominant I just use my right eye (non dominant).
Can you shoot both eyes open using a red dot, with your right eye behind the sight?

I have vision in my right eye, but its very blurry, and I can not read or see any detail. If I try to use my right eye alone all I see it a red blob and blurry targets. I shoot my pistols with 2 eyes open but %99 of the vision comes from my left eye. And sometimes when I get tired my blurry right eye confuses my vision in the left. I've had 2 open eye surgeries to try and fix it, and 2 laser procedures, and so far it has not gotten any better. So I do keep my right eye open but I still have to get my left eye behind the sight otherwise I cant see *hit..

Sounds like it would be worth switching to lefty completely?

That just feels so wrong, who know maybe I can get use to it, but right off the bat it feels totally wrong
However awkward it looks, I am just happy I am still here and can even shoot. Yea I lost some vision and my sense of smell but coming from this I think Im doing alright

Ouch! Kudos to you for giving it a go.

I'm right hand / left eye. I've shot C7 right handed and can handle my own with forces qual's which aren't particularly hard to get by.

I keep telling myself I'll breakdown and retrain. But I agree it's weird.

I'm in a similar situation as you. I had an impact related injury to my right eye when I was a teenager and after surgery etc. my right eye has never been the same. I used to shoot right handed but after the injury, I had to learn to shoot left handed, at least with long guns. It was the most unnatural feeling at the start but over the years, I got used to shooting from my left. It won't happen overnight and it won't feel 100% (more like 98% natural) like shooting with your right hand but I tell ya what, it's a lot more comfortable than trying to shoot long guns on the right using your left eye. You just got to start training your left side to get used to the feeling.

Eotech 553 and Knights BUIS. Eotech does not co- witness with the irons, wouldn't even call it lower 1/3 as all I can see is the top of the irons! Is equiped with ARMS throw levers removal is very quick.

The suggestion to completely switch to southpaw isn't out to lunch by any means.. Will feel weird initially but eventually you'll get used to it and will be able to be pretty good at it, too.. My dad grew up under communism, natural southpaw, got taught to be a righty. I didn't even know until a few years ago. Still a good shooter both with a rifle and a pistol.

With your eye situation preventing you from comfortably using your BUIS, having you considered picking up a couple of picatinny rail risers? Install the risers and then install your BUIS on top. You can buy risers of differing heights, so should be able to find a pair that will work for you. Might look a little unwieldy, but should work. Just a thought...

I just thought of that the other day!

And so I have rail risers on order from Brownells, I got a long rail riser to raise my optics, and a smaller one to raise my BUIS in the front. Im hoping the long rail riser I got for the optics is long enough to fit my magnifier, Eotech and BUIS in the rear. It should help with the Eotech for sure as any more height will help, and if it doesn't help with the BUIS I might just remove them, they are kinda just for looks anyways. I also ordered a ATPIAL AN/PEQ-15 so I will have a visible laser, since I only use this for target practice it wont be the end of the world if I cant use BUIS on it. I'll just have to set something else up for that

Ive tried to get used to left hand operation, looking through the optics and sights is fine, its just really awkward with the hands being a righty trying to do it lefty. Even with all the ambi stuff I put on, like safety selector and mag release. Im sure I can overcome that if I have too, but its just weird, I shoot pistols right handed then I have to switch to left for rifle. Would be a good skill to have I assume though
