DDMK18 optic help

I had the Vortex prism scope. I fund the reticle too small.

I first bought a bushnell TRS25 red dot sight, then the Vortex 3x prism, then a Bushnell AR optics 3-9X scope, and now I have an EXPS3 on my MK18 plus. I wish I would have bought it first.

no point going offset if youre not running a magnified optic as a primary. I'd go the DD T1 mount, the updated version comes with shim so wou can pick absolute or lower third cowitness according to wich one works best for you. for me the main difference between absolute and lower third is you keep the same cheekweld with absolute but you get a cluttered field of view, you get an uncluttered field of view with the lower third but have to use a heads up position to center the red dot. lower third is a bit quicker for me by itself.
The DD mount is great, the only reason I switched mine was because I wanted QD, and it'll look awesome with the DD BUIS too.

I'm running a T1 in lower third, a x3 and KAC 600m micro rear/M4 front on my MK18 now, I think its great.

Aimpoint Micro H1 or T1, get an ADM mount. I don't use irons as the battery life on aimpoints is several years.

Yes, but backup irons are handy. I'm running an Aimpoint Comp M3 on my DDMK18 (love it) and my mount came totally loose right in the middle of a course of fire in a CQB match. Operator error for sure in not checking everything before the match, but I simply flipped up my MI backup sights and finished the string. After that string I tightened up my mount at the safe table and was able to use my irons to re-sight the optic (you can't sneak away to sight in during a match). I ended up doing just fine, but would have been f'd without the sights.

To the OP... you won't go wrong with any EOTech or Aimpoint. It's just a matter of persona preference, but I prefer Aimpoint for shooting paper (have an H-1 on another rifle and love it too). If I was really operating in a high stress environment, I might lean toward the EOTech (have owned a few) as the halo reticle is, in my opinion, a little easier to pickup quickly.

How much is a H1? Like $750? Plus a $100 mount? That's close to $1k for a red dot for range use...

Or you can spend $250 for a Holosun that comes with a mount.

if you're looking to build a clone of a real MK18 and want to use fixed sights, go with LMT. If not then the DD ones will probably work better for you (no big knobs).

I run an EOTech on mine. I like it but have gone through but the battery life isn't the greatest. Still think they are the best optic for quickly aquiring a target. Once you use a holographic weapon sight, it's hard to go back to a red dot/Aimpoint style optic. The technology is amazing. It's designed to shoot with both eyes open.

Aimpoint has a reputation for good battery life. I have been interested in a T1 Micro for a while. As a small, lightweight optic, it seems to compliment a short barreled rifle. A quality mount (LaRue, Daniel Defense, etc...) will cost over a hundred dollars more.

Having siad all this, I sold two pistols and will be selling my EOTech XPS3-0 in the EE to fund an Elcan SpecterDr 1-4X. I am building a clone and if you have not seen an Elcan in person it is a great peice of kit. They also look badass on a MK18...

For range use just go with the t1. No need for buis. Get the cowitness mount and be done with it. I have never seen an aimpoint go down. I am still on the first batteries i installed prob 7 years ago. If the battery dies you can actually shoot pretty accurate at cqb range just centering the dead optic on target.

Thanks for all the info everyone, I leaning towards the Eotech 512 or similar(I like AA over Cr123) plus with AA batteries you apparently get longer run time.

Now its just a matter of finding a good price on one..
