Well it's not that I'm ashamed of my Norinco but I've always wanted to remove the "exported by norinco" and "made in china" stamps on the frame.

Well I finally got around to it, about 6 hours... over two days.


Removed the stamps with a diamond stone.

Then took off the rest of the blueing with some casey blueing remover and evened out the metal with open mesh abrasive strips.

Re-blued with oxpho blue.

I didn't touch the slide but it could use some de-horning as well.

I like those higher visibility sights. Yes my NP29 needed lots of dehorning, then off to the bead blast cabinet and then to the parkerizing tank.

I love my NP29, especially for the price. Now, if only they could get more in...

You have a lovely looking Commander there....
 
Am I missing something, or is this the old "I hope nobody sees me going out with the " undesirable"...(couldn't force myself to use the obvious epitaphs in this P.C. world!)..girl!
Sort of like the guy who...(true story)...ordered and mounted a M-B 'star' on his
'Smart Car'...and told disbelievers that it 'came stock like that'!

Imagine your embarrassment when some guy looks at your 'pride and joy' and asks..."What make is it?"
Refinishing, dehorning, etc., I get....but 'buffing a turd'...I don't!

I don't think it's a matter of hiding the fact that it's a Norc, but the fact that these markings are just plain fugly and draw the eye away from the beauty of the gun. The same goes for thoes damned "Read Owners Manual Before Use" or "WARNING: Misuse can cause injury or death" stampings on otherwise beautiful Marlin rifles and guns by other companys.

If I could, I'd love to remove the "Made in China" stamp off my NP-22.

I removed it by buying a Colt...;)
 
Yup it's still a Norinco:D

I bought it used with the tritium sights and other upgraded parts allready installed.

It's a nice shooter and looks cleaner to me without the stamps.

Thing I like about cheap guns is they make these home projects seem less intimidating for a rookie...

It's still a Norc - meaning: after you've added all of the parts that the other guys have added, and had the same work done as them, and you've finally got a gun that shoots as well as a $1400 Kimber - you're still $600 up.

Well Mercedes-Benz does make the smart car (Mercedes is the "M" in smart).;) :)

A have a nork that has no markings but the serial #, but it's a prototype.:)
 
Nice work! is that an aftermarket trigger and Hammer? if so, what are they and how much did they cost?

I don't know what the parts cost as they were on the gun when I bought it...
The grips are Hogue you can get them online from hogue or at most gun shops.
The aftermarket parts are,
Nowlin trigger kit (hammer, sear, disconnect, sear spring, main spring)
Wilson Combat trigger
Para Ordnance S/S saftey
Para Ordnance S/S beavertail
Para Ordnance S/S hex grips screws
Kimber night sights, machined into the slide
Hogue rubber finger groove grips
King's match barrel bushing
Wilson full length guide rod
Chip McCormick extractor

Let's see here,,,the only "Norc" thing about the gun is the frame, slide and barrel...correct.
Looks like you got a keeper there!!! Good looking pistol, like all slab sided 1911s.
Bet it shoots well too!! Who cares if it is a "Norc" as long as it shoots, that is all that matters.

Sounds like a nice build. I'm bugging Gunnar for the Commander as well :)
