De-Norked Commander

Yup it's still a Norinco:D

I bought it used with the tritium sights and other upgraded parts allready installed.

It's a nice shooter and looks cleaner to me without the stamps.

Thing I like about cheap guns is they make these home projects seem less intimidating for a rookie...

Exactly! That's what I did too. I bought a Norinco 1911A1 GM, and modified the living heck out of it...learned an awful lot, and enjoyed shooting it very much. It was an extremely accurate, 100% reliable gun. My nephew now owns it and is enjoying just as much. Because it was a $225 Norinco (at the time I bought it new) it was not intimidating for me to work on either.

That Commander of yours looks BEAUTIFUL! Particularly w/o the "stamps" you have removed. Nice job! :) These guns represent incredible value.

Jeff/1911.

Well it's not that I'm ashamed of my Norinco but I've always wanted to remove the "exported by norinco" and "made in china" stamps on the frame.

EXCELLENT JOB!!! I remember thinking the exact same thing when i first opened my Norinco box!

The way i see it is, why spend $1400 on someone else's design, when you can buy a nork for $400, drop like $200-300 into it, and have something YOU designed and created, PLUS a couple cases of ammo and enough for dinner.

As long as the frame is a Norinco.....no way.

Huh? Why?

I was talking guns with a few Americans a week ago and one of them was showing off his new Taurus... anyway, conversation came up about "cheaper" 1911s and I mentioned Norinco and the guy said they have them there as well.

I don't know that frame is Norinco though:)

Darko I believe the US has had several bans on Norinco firearms and ammunition, right now it's an executive order forbidding import of some non-sporting types, but allowing shotguns. I believe the last one in response to the Chinese sale of marraging steel expired this summer, but the current one will be in force for some time. And if you travel with a Norinco it'd be covered by that ban.

It's a sleeper.
One of those million-horsepower cars you wouldn't bet a dime on when you see them at the traffic light.

Same here, you'll be puzzled when you see the owner punching a single ragged hole, you go asking the guy, and
"It's a Norinco"
"you're ####ting me"

More often than not it's the shooter not the pistol that's making the single ragged hole... ;)

I'd be puzzled too if the owner was punching a single ragged hole but she shoots pretty good...for me!:)

Plus the fact that I've never had an issue with my norinco other than my stupid reloads (when I was just learning about resizing bullets). My norinco has never given me a problem. I totally love it and I'll never sell it.

Even thought the thread is old there may still be people interested in De-Norking their new pistols.
If this Necro thread helps motivate a few home smiths it can't be as bad as all that!
I'm not opposed to having this discussion again and it would be nice to see some more pictures of other peoples de-norked guns....
The problem with Necro threads is when someone responds years later and asks a question of the OP but the the OP is long gone!
I'm not dead yet.....:bump:

I don't know about the sticky thing but if someone is asking about blanking out the markings on a Norinco 1911 and I see it I just link them to this thread instead of reposting the same information....that's how this one sprung back to life.
