De-priming live brass

Never done it, don't see the need. Just shoot em off, 4 bucks/100 worth the risk? Not for me. Unless you have thousands, then i dunno.

It's never been a problem for me, just wear eye and ear protection and move the press slowly. I've had to remove primers that were backwards or not fully seated and never had one go off.

Nothing wrong with the other idea of shooting them off first. Just not something I like to do at home.

You can neutralize primers using WD-40, that is if you must remove live primers. I have done it successfully a couple of times for 10 to 20 shells. Not something I like to do...

I have 50 to do, more than I wanna run through the rifle. Think i will give it a go.

Bought the brass with primers in it, just want to clean and size them properly for myself.

They're primers not Dynamite... Put on some goggles and maybe some muffs and deprime them. Just take it easy on the ram, even if you set one off you'll be just fine.

I did 20 7-08 that I decided to throw away and didnt want them live, on the weekend. I wasn't even particularly gentle running the press up, tho I didn't SLAM them. No isssues.

Must this come up EVERY month?

Just decap the live primers, put em in a box and use for load testing or plinking.

No oil, No water, No VooDoo Magic and No HAZMAT suit required.

I have done hundreds without a single bang and I decap the same as I would with a spent primer.

I just did 60 308 brass that were neck sized for a rifle I sold. I sprayed on the case lube like usual and ran them through a full length sizing die. No worries and the primers looked like they could be reused. I set them aside for fun around the campfire! Kidding...........no not reallyR:d:

how are you going to clean them? If you do anything but tumble them, then you do not need to de-prime them at all. Just set your decapping pin high, lube the case, and resize them. No harm, no foul.
This foolishness about neutralizing them is crap. I have done thousands, never an issue. Go a little more gently and you will be fine and even if one does go off, it will not kill you, or blow off a hand, or penetrate the ceiling and kill the baby next door...

I heard this is how Hungry blew his #### off!

I have removed hundreds of live primers, with nary a "bang" I keep them and re-use them in plinking/practice rounds, and they have always gone "bang" when required. Eagleye.

Don 't put oil or anything else in yoru cases. Unnecessary and unless you wash and thoroughly dry them there is a possiblility that you'll contaminate your reloads. Just run them through your decapping die and you'll be fine.

For you guys putting a drop of oil on the primers, do that then put the primed round in your gun and pull the trigger. 10;1 it will go bang. Never tried it with WD-40 but have with oil, water, and hoppes #9 to see how much oil had to be on my fingers to potentially contaminate a primer, they all went bang.

As to De-capping, the shell is inside a die, even if it were to go off it isn't going anywhere. Have done all kinds of them and never had one go bang.

Of course, I'm like so many of you, who just push them out live.
However, I once wondered of these people who have great ideas on how to neutralize the primer, have they tried their theory and found it works? Or, is it like so much "information" given on these threads, just what they have read, or heard someone say it works?
I put a couple of primed cases in a dish of water. Next morning I put them in my rifle, and, Bang, Bang, both fired.
Then I took a primed case, stood it up and put half inch of WD40 in it. Next morning I put it in my rifle, and BAng, it fired, but possibly not as strong as a new one.
