De prohibit the FAL Campaign! (template letter added)

See, by the first few posts, Canadian gun owners roll over. I'll write a letter. I want one, and I will have an FNC1 one day, one way or the other.

The FAL has been my dream rifle ever since I saw it! I'm all for a generic letter to be written that I can print off sign and mail.

A generic letter for those who are not skilled writers may be a good idea, but I don't like the idea of just sighing names to the same letter, if I received 1000 of the same letter, it would not make a big of an impact then receiving 1000 individually, personalized letters.

Maybe just a generic platform? Ill write up a guideline in an formal format and post it tonight. Then all the person will have to do is fill in the gaps.

Also, Why is this not stickied yet? I would hate for this campaign to die because is got pushed to the second page.

So we are going to ask the pro gun government to be pro gun? Pardon me guys but I think for the moment there are bigger issues. When there is a majority it might be possible to revisit the firearms laws. In the meantime i want the Conservatives to concentrate on getting that majority for the sake of this country.

OK, I added a brief guideline based on how I learned to write formal letters in college to the Original post. If anyone thinks it needs changes, list them.

And to all the people against this, just ignore the thread, go on and do whatever YOU want to do. We are not trying to draw attention from other things like the Registry, we are just making a simple request.

Let me say I'm sorry for trying to discourage you guys from overturning the prohib status on our FN's. I like nothing more than to see it change.

Is this not a job for the NFA? Do we have a representative on the site? If you are a member of the Alberta Provincial Rifle Association you are a member. We should try to motivate our legal wing to argue this.

They would be too busy with the big issues like the registry and helping people who were wrongfully charged.

The FAL is something that i believe can be done by ourselves. A few hundred letters can do a lot.

That's one of the arguments I used too.

Here's my letter. I'm just going to email it since the postage on sending letters would be better spent on something more immediate and urgent, like the LGR.

Could you guys help me correct any spelling errors, and any facts I'm wrong or unsure about (i.e. The C1 as issued was in fact semi auto, right? And women were allowed in the Combat Arms when the C1 was in service, right? (1982-1987)

Postage not required on letters to members of parliament. Emails are easy for them to ignore, letters REQUIRE a response.

i take it you didn't serve with one- well, they ALL can be converted in SECONDS to full auto WITH BITS FROM YOUR RAT-PACK - a matchstick, piece of tin can, or just about anything with the right dimensions stuck in the proper place will accompish this feat- and typically your w/o or senior nco KNOWS where to put it- he then passes this 'KNOWLEDGE" ON TO LOWER ranks- by the end of basic , everyone including the office clreks knew how

yup i have to agre even when i was in cadets the airborn guys in petewawa would show us how to do it i do miss the fn though ,i would still wright a letter though

I think he meant he would rather see the gov. spend its money on something else besides sending a letter.. (haha?)

OK after some though, I realize that even if we do get the FAL de-prohib, we would still face the RCMP labeling these as "easily convertible to fully auto" BS. However, it would still allow us to import or manufacture new receivers that are very difficult to convert, such as the US have.

Another issue, is that if they do indeed reclassify it as full auto, that the current 12(5) owners of FAL's would lose them.

Anyone have any comments?

I wonder how many of you sports fans were active participants in the last great letter writing and protest exercises in the early 1990s when we were fighting against C68 and all of it's implementing regulations.

It was a noble effort, but a failure. The NFA was focussed and quite dynamic at the time, but it was all for nought. I still have a box-full of my various epistles to whatever brand of politician was around at the time. It didn't accomplish sh@t, but I certainly felt better for doing it.

Now tell us just how we would motivate the Conservatives to pick up the cudgel and roll this back for us. Where are the political payoffs for them? The Conservatives are fighting hard for votes in the urban centres where any form of gun control plays as a good thing.:(

Much as I would love to see this, I can't see it happening, and I doubt that any lobbying at this point would work.

Why the FN and not the H&K-91? After all, most of those are on semi only receivers, specially approved by the then BATF.

Why not the BM-59, again any likely to be here will be Springfield Armoury copies, without full auto features and basically based on an M1 Garand.

If we are going to lobby for a prohib rollback, it should be all or nothing.

If we try this now, two things, one is "No", and the other will possibly be a concerted effort to get more stuff declared prohib by "easilly convertible", like the VZ-58 variations John at Marstar had to eat, and the Chinese bullpups that CanadaAmmo is still fighting over.

Much as I would love to take my FN to the range etc, I say step-by-step. LGR gone first. If the CPC gets a majority, we may even get a bit more. Say for example they re-introduce a variant of C-301 to kill the LGR. Rolled into license ATT, prohibs to the range, transport for "any legitimate purpose" etc. THEN we start lobbying for lifetime licenses, un-restricted mags, and de-prohibing stuff.

the reason for the hk91 being on the list is that you can swap parts into that body from a g3 or so i've been told- aside from looks, i mean

ahem: that would be AIRBOURNE- if you're going to utter the SACRED WORD, spell it PROPERLY
maroon forever

Not true, the lower is diferent, like most semi-only variants. You can't put G-3 lower parts into a H&K-91 lower. One of the easiest ways to tell one from the other is that the H&K-91 does not, and cannot have the G-3 mag release, it has a push button on the side. You could perhaps re-machine a H&K-91 lower, but if you were that good of a machinist, you could make your own from scratch anyway.
