I have a question about my .44mag DE pistol.
After a shot the slide sometimes fails to return completely. A small push in back of the slide will bring it back and lock for the next shot.
Should I change the recoil springs or is there another problem ?
Thanks

What type of ammo are you using? Mabee the round isn't feeding as smoothly as it could be, so the motion of the slide closing is delayed by the round being chambered.

It would be a good idea to change the recoil springs...if there very old and "crummy" looking. If there relatively new, I dont see the problem being the recoil springs.

Try this: Insert a loaded magazine with the slide closed. Pull the slide back very slowly until it clears the action, and the round pops up from the mag (Pointed away from you/in a safe direction/stuff you probally already know)
Now, holding firmly on the rear serrations of the slide...assist the slide forward slowly and steadily watching carefully the round being chambered from the mag. You MIGHT be able to determine if there is any problems or inconsistancies with the chambering round going off the feed ramp into the chamber.

Go to the range with factory Wincheser USA .44 Mag (240 grain JSP's) and blast away.

Good luck.
