I have a question reguarding single shot rifles. Why are they soooooo expensive, compared to a bolt action or lever? I have never owned one but always wanted one in a falling block design! Price has always been the kicker. Just wondering why? Or do I have my sights set to high (winchester, ruger)? lol
Thanks in advance

Depends on the amount of fitting and craftsmanship I would guess. You can get into a H&R or similar very reasonably......OR....I just ordered a Blaser K95 Stutzen Attache.......and you don't wanna know.....

A couple of things that make a high quality falling block rifle more money than a bolt action... the investment and time required to manufacture it and the low number of sales.

First of all, Ruger No1 is more than reasonably priced. ~$1400 or so?

Just for reference, Blaser K95 around $4k-$5k?

Haenel Jager 9, around $3k I think

So Ruger is very modest. You could also look at Luxus Arms Model 11 - $1700 or so, and Tomson Center Encore.

Its not that single shot rifles are so expensive, its cheap "value-oriented bold action rifles" which flood the market make it appear so. Does not reflect the real value of a decent gun this days.

Single shot rifles convey a certain prestige, what takes you 3-5 shells I can accomplish with just one...
Well that's the flak I get from friends anyway...

Love my encore PH, would love a ruger #1 in something old school like 9.3x74R just as much I'm sure...

Tradex may have some antiques at a reasonable price if your interested in learning to love an obscure classic old cartridge?
