Hello everyone,

Being a long-time fan of the show I am interested in what it would take to obtain a replica of the Colt 1911 A1 used by Dean Winchester in the show Supernatural. From what I have gathered thus far it is .45 ACP, nickel plated, mirrored finish with custom engraving…

I do realise that this will probably cost a fair bit and I am ok with that.

I guess there are several ways to go about this and my questions would be:
• The first being does anyone know of an engraver that could perform this kind of work?
• Where can one find a nickel plated 1911 A1?
• For the 1911 experts out there a challenge; What is the exact make and model of the gun pictured?

Here is a video of almost exactly what I would be after, thought the gentlemen who posted it is less than inclined to share details….

Any help you guys could offer would be very much appreciated,

you do realize by fair bit you mean ~$5k right?

and hopefully longshot sees this thread, cause he would be the best person to ask the make and model

It's not easy to find actual data. The Colt Series IV that turns up appears to not be the right gun. And all other references to the one used in the show are simply given as "M1911A1".

The pictures from the show are clear that it's a basic GI issue slide with vertical grip serrations, GI spur hammer and the basic GI beavertail. I didn't find any that show the style of MSH. And nothing that I would say is direct from the show.

Nickel plating would need to be done after the engraving. So blued or nickel plated wouldn't matter. Just don't buy a stainless gun and plan on nickel plating it.

A lot of the pics I've found of this pistol look like a Norinco (goofy front sight), and there's also the fact that this show is filmed in Canada so they would be readily available. The one featured in the above-linked video is definitely a Norinco.

Honestly I haven't actually seen/paid attention to what that pistol was built off of. I'll have a look to see if we have a double in the shop. The chances are that they are both still out on the show. BCRider is correct though that it gets nickel plated afterwards. The engraver is here in Vancouver and had done other stuff for us like Babydoll's .45 from Suckerpunch. I'm sure I could organize getting a matching gun made but like others have said it isn't cheap.

So ive been think about this for awhile as well. I love the show and am a huge fan. Dean is my favorite TV character. I love 1911 as well so it's just perfect for me.
Longshot seems you know a lot about this gun. Could you give an estimate of cost start to finish? New gun, engraving, plating...everything? Thanks

You'll also need a wide-brimmed fur hat, a knee-length purple duster with a fur collar, and a limp.:p:p

Love the show, but there's only one Dean Winchester, lol.:d

Just sent a text to a buddy who worked on the show from pilot up to last season, if he comes up with any info, I'll let you know. He just got back to me says he'll try

The gun he is thinking of is "The Colt", which is the pietta revolver. Wrong Colt!
