thinking about buying a new stock set for my M1 from Dean's Gun Restorations,... http://www.dgrguns.com/New-M1-Garand-Stocks.htm

Has anyone bought one of these before? How are they? Decent quality? I don't like the Boyds stocks as they feel really fat.

I got one about 4 years ago. I can't compare to Boyds, i never seen one, but DGR's quality and finish is top notch.
I got one with Brown stain and type 2 finish (military)...it's flawless. The trigger group locks up nice and tight.
Lines are sharp were they need to be. I would buy a second one in a heartbeat.
I also bought one of their M1907 sling, totally Worth the price. Awsome leather.
(on a side note, the price of their fancy stocks seems to have tripled since i made my purchase...ouch)

Thanks, I was wondering if they were in fact boyds, from reading the website it sounds like he is selecting the blanks then sending them out for machining...

Before i had bought it, i had done searches on forums and the net and people were saying they were either Dupage stocks or Wenigs stocks.
He does all the fiting, inletting and finishing.
Back then, Boyds did'nt make drop-in stocks yet. I did'nt want to do all that fitting myself and risk ruining the stock.
Reviews of Boyds were not that great and DGR's were all positive... to me the choice was simple.
But like i said, that was 4 years ago and i have never compared the two in person.

they might be...who knows now days
i doubt any of them would admit it lol
for $100 less i would be tempted to try them myself

you could always try emailing Dean himself... he might tell you were he gets them... or not...
