Crap... I have spent over two large on hunting Turkeys in the last two years.... they should march right up to my door and give themselves up.

aint that the truth.....

and people expect you to give away large amounts of your over abundant meat:rolleyes:
no matter how hard you try, you are not going to come out on top of your hunting over your grocery shopping.....

no such thing as meat hunters now a days:(

I 'd hate to calculate the $/lb of the meat in my freezer...... frightning is what it is.......

Here is my $300 bird, speaking of price per pound:redface:

Got him last saturday, hope ta get his daddy tomorrow:D

16lbs, 6" beard, nubs for spurs.

Thats a nice Jake redmandan... was he alone or with other birds?
The big Toms are henned up and very few birds are sitting eggs yet over here. Another week and there should be more Toms looking for hens... could get interesting soon.

what I like best are the people who say it must be great to get ''free''meat

I usually tally it all up for people that say that to me. Then they're aghast that someone would spend that much to kill an animal when they could get meat at the grocery store cheaper...

...people that don't hunt just don't get it...

Well I think this makes number 7 at my place, I kinda lost track... I wish I coulda pounded the Tom that was hanging back from this one... he was half again as big.
The Toms seem to be very vocal and looking for hens the last couple of days. I had five gobblers going this morning 100 yards from the house.
I took this one from a spot that has coughed up three nice birds so far... I did a tree yelp and a fly down at first light and they all went ballistic from the roost. Cut and purr and then silence for about 45 minutes and then two monsters walked over the hill to me.
They were both gobbling and displaying at about 55 yards and would not come any closer... I could not move or call because they were looking right at me. The smaller one moved in to 45 yards and the big one turned and walked away... the choice was made for me... Bung... he rolled and I ran out and stood on his neck.
He has a ten inch beard and 1 inch and 1 1/4 inch spurs, I would guess 19 pounds... an awfully good two year old... damn I hope somebody spanks that other bird cuz he is a real trophy.... dragging his beard... Chilly will prolly shoot him... damn.

Turkey hunting looks like fun , tasty fun.

Alberta is supposed get some Turkeys imported (Southern Alberta, I think), is it draw only?

Are these also imported into the area? also what ga. is perfect for these fine feathered friends?

Finally, I make the board! Phew... (not that I was worried.)

Got this 16lb jake at 5:50 this AM.
I had 3 jakes fly from their roost to about 70 yards in front of me. (I didn't even know they were there till they started gobbling). I lost them for about a half hour whilst they were tromping through the brush.
Then...the chickens decided to cross the road. The first one was hauling!! no shot at all...I don't think he likes crossing the trail. The second one pops out and I start pulling my barrel around in a 180 (very slowly). THEN, number three walks out basically right in my sights!!
"Have we got beard??.....hold hold.....BEARD!!, SLAM!! Turkey down!!" 35yards. Took a few good shots (pellets), but 1 especially right through the brain. His death was quick and humane. He's now cooling down in my freezer and I made it to work for the afternoon shift. (Only because I was out of beer!!)
