debating my rimfire...need some help

okay, I'm thinking of something single shot, to help me learn to breath and focus...like the Stevens 30G (open to suggestions tho)...or something like the Savage Mark II w/Bull Barrel (F etc), or perhaps just grab something for the gits n shiggles of it like the JW-15A that Epp's has, or a EM-332 (if Marstar really has it in stock like their site says...don't you darn well buy em out on me either, if recommended :rolleyes: ).

I want something inexpensive...around $250 or less, as I'd still have to scope it.
 
I really like my savage MKII FV. it has shot 1 hole groups at 25 yards for me often enough. most decent 22lrs are going to be accurate enough for offhand shoooting practice though so you might not really want to spend the extra 50 to get a bull barrel
But I really like mine :D
 
Really tough to beat a Savage Mark II BV...$290 from WSS....

Heavy barrel, nice lam stock, accutrigger, ect...
 
I learned to shoot (many years ago!) with a single shot .22 target rifle. That said, I think the only advantage of a single shot is as an additional safety measure when groups of novice shooters are being instructed. You can always load a bolt action repeater one at a time if you like, and with a full magazine it's more versatile.

I have a couple of Savage MkIIs and agree with the other comments about them. Very good and accurate gun for the money unless you get the rare lemon. You might also consider a used rifle if you're not in a big hurry. I've seen several very attractive .22s on the EE for under $200.

You don't really have to spend a lot of money for a serviceable .22 scope. A Bushnell 3-9 rimfire scope only costs about $50 and will work fine for most .22 work.
 
Just bought a Savage MarkII FV shoots like a dream. If you buy one you won't be sorry.

Savage or Stevens are the way to go if you're on a budget. The Norc may actually surprise you too, but for a little more money I'd get the Savage.
 
Why not pick up an older Lakefield Mark I or Mark II...perhaps a Cooey 75 or 39 single...even a Cooey 60 repeater and just the fact of the gun being a bolt action will be the same as a single shot bolt. Much cheaper than new and just as accurate.
 
You don't need a particular type of FA or action type to cause you to focus on each shot. You can shoot as rapidly as you can load a single shot or you can take your time and deliberate on each shot from a high capacity semi-auto. It's making a habit of the deliberation that will cause you to focus and concentrate. If you can't resist emptying the mag as fast as you can(pray and spray) then you need to develop some discipline with your shooting.
Make your targets smaller to cause you to focus on a smaller object - aim small miss small!
