Decapping 303 via 270 die

Hey fellas,
im awaiting the 303 dies which will be a few weeks away due to the seller being away... no dramas.

Ive done some enquiring and I have a feeling I should be able to decap the primer of a 303 british case using the .270 win dies? is this possible.

reason I believe it is..

303 case is shorter- wont ride up into die so far
the 303 case slides right up to primer by sitting in 270 die - id imagine with a little press it would pop out
.270 is smaller than .303 in the neck
270 case is slightly large in all aspects apart from neck, so 303case wont be getting touched/resized

cos what I will do after this is use the 308win dies to slighty neck size and also jus seat the projie in enough to get a solid grip, ready to fire.

I will have a Case length gauge so cases wont be too long.
all brass has been fired from same gun its goin into so I don't see need for FLS until dies arrive

Also there is a shortage of .311/.312 bullets so im guna give the 308s a go..

Edit*- Found Sierra 150gr .311 which I will grab also!!

Slightly unconventional, but no reason why it shouldn't work. I would screw the de-cap rod down a bit so the ball is below the base of the die. The brass shouldn't have to touch the die at all. Universal de-cap dies work roughly the same way.

Yeah very unconventional I suppose 9.3!

Although I feel I have another issue, if I am not using .308 projies with the 308 neck size... then I may have an issue of holding neck tension if I load the .311s.... unless I unconventionally just put a slight neck size to 308 an squeeze the 311 in??

Its all adding up, I cant afford the decapper die this trip to the big town unfortunately.. I'll make do with what I got though.

Should be shootin tomorrow - even if it is just 308 bullets

The .303 case is smaller everywhere. Should work just fine. Won't help with anything but keeping you busy though. You're going to have to resize 'em anyway. And .311" bullet may not be the right diameter for your rifle. Slug the barrel.

This will work. No harm in sizing the neck with 308 and then seating the 311 bullets.

I have decapped many hundreds of rounds with a center rod out of a die and brass hammer and tapping out the primer.. unconventional, but quick, and you never break a de capping pin

Yeah its slugged, .313 closest I can get is 311 an even they r thin on the ground down here!!! sierra is what I got 150s, an the 30-30 170gr fn hornadys in 308 bang bang

Good god man get a classic Lee loader, you can reload at the range and play whack a mole at the same time. I have several of them for when the SHTF, Zombie attacks etc..

And what are you going to do when you have to reload on the run.........................From viscous killer Australian animals (I left out Yowies because they were all eaten by killer crocks)

I hope you know how to camouflage yourself and cover your scent.

As an Australian you should already know you never want to loose your competitive edge.
